ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College softball team scored all nine runs in the first three innings of game two to defeat host Elizabethtown College 9-4 on Sunday afternoon to earn a split with the Blue Jays. EU won the opener 9-5.
Game 1
The Dutchmen (20-10) scored on a wild pitch in the first inning to take the early lead. Elizabethtown (14-19) hit a two-run homer to take the lead in the bottom of the inning. LVC retook the lead with a four-run third inning. The Blue Jays tied the game back up at five with three runs in the bottom half. The hosts scored a run in the fourth and added three insurance runs in the sixth to come away with the game one victory.
Inside the Box Score
- Lindsey McCurdy raced home on a wild ball four to Julia Craig in the first inning. McCurdy also scored in the third on a Morgan Comfort single to the hole at short.
- Comfort led the team with two hits in the game and scored the final run of the third on a Kylie Balthaser single to left.
- Sam Burns and Hannah Bashore had a hit and run each at the top and bottom of the lineup.
- The Dutchmen stole six bases with Burns and McCurdy each swiping two. Comfort and Bashore stole a base each.
Game 2
LVC (21-10) did all their scoring in the first three innings with four in the first, three in the second, and two in the third.
Jordan Walter did the rest holding the Blue Jays (14-20) to just one run in the first and three in the fifth.
Inside the Box Score
- Craig began the scoring with a two-RBI double to right center. She then scored on a wild pitch.
- Julia Forsythe knocked in a run with a double down the line in left.
- The Dutchmen scored three runs in the second on a pair of hard-hit balls up the middle. McCurdy knocked in one run and then Jessica Truitt blasted a ball right back at the pitcher that scored McCurdy and Craig.
- Lexi Smith had two hits, scored three runs, and stole two bases.
- Walter struck out four to earn her 12th win of the season.
Who's Next
The Dutchmen will celebrate Senior Day on Wednesday in their final regular season home games of the year. LVC will host Widener University in a big conference matchup beginning at 3 p.m. at the LVC Softball Park.
