Botbyl Leads Dutchmen Baseball Against Penn State Harrisburg

ANNVILLE, Pa.Pete Botbyl had three hits, knocked in three runs, and scored three runs to fuel a furious comeback effort by the Lebanon Valley College baseball squad on Wednesday afternoon at McGill Field. Penn State Harrisburg defeated the Dutchmen 15-12 in a high-scoring affair.
 
The Lions (19-14) hit a pair of solo homers in the first and then used a big nine-run second to take a 11-0 lead. LVC (20-13) started the comeback effort in the third with three runs. Penn State Harrisburg scored a run in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 13-3 lead. The Dutchmen put a big dent in the lead with two runs in the fifth and four in the seventh. Both teams scored a run in the eighth and the Lions added a run in the ninth. LVC didn't go away and scored twice in the ninth and brought the winning run to the plate with the bases loaded before the Lions were able to get the final out.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Botbyl knocked in all three of his RBIs in the seventh with a bases-clearing triple down the left field line.
  • Mike Bulgia had two hits, two runs scored, and knocked in a pir. He hit a run-scoring double to right in the fifth and an RBI single to center in the ninth.
  • Jace Fetterman had another strong day at the plate with three hits. He also scored twice and knocked in a run.
  • Ethan O'Loughlin, Nico Santoro, and Conor Smith all had two hits for LVC. Santoro started the scoring in the ninth with a single through the left side to score Botbyl. O'Loughlin hit a big triple to right center scoring Botbyl in the third on the first pitch he saw.
  • Tony Bennage pitched a strong three innings of relief striking out three and allowing just one hit. Brendan Landry also allowed one hit in two innings of work. Malachi Duka struck out three batters in one inning of work and Nick Guerieri struck out one in the ninth. Jacob Horton had two strikeouts in one inning of relief.
Who's Next
LVC will be back in conference play this weekend starting with a 3:30 p.m. game at The Yard in St. Davids on Friday to wrap up their series with Eastern University.
