ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley College women's tennis team set the tone early by sweeping doubles to earn a big 7-2 victory over defending Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Champion York College on Pennsylvania in the conference opener on Saturday afternoon at the Shankroff Tennis Center.
LVC (5-5, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) enacted a little bit of revenge on the Spartans (2-4, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) after dropping a 5-4 decision in last year's Championship match. The Dutchmen won four of the six singles matches after sweeping doubles. Three flights went to three sets with the Spartans winning two of three-setters.
Inside the Box Score
- Sarah Kramer and Eliana Shenk were the first doubles team done with an 8-3 victory in the third flight. Meredith Haas and Madison Poladian won 8-4 at number two while Jacquelyn McBride and Nicole Honrade took home an 8-6 decision in the top flight.
- Haas was the first done in singles earning a 6-3, 6-2 win at number three singles. Honrade clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at number two.
- McBride earned a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory in the top singles flight while Shenk won in straight sets with a second set tiebreaker at number six singles.
- Kramer and Poladian both lost their singles matches in three sets with both falling 10-8 in the third set.
- The Dutchmen have now won three straight matches on their home courts and broke up a five-match losing streak against the Spartans.
Who's Next
LVC will have two conference matches on the road next week starting on Wednesday with a short trip to Reading to take on Alvernia University. The match against the Golden Wolves is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
