Dutchmen Softball Sweeps Lehigh Valley Schools

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Lebanon Valley College softball team evened their record to 2-2 with a pair of wins on Monday against schools from the Lehigh Valley on their second day in Myrtle Beach. The Dutchmen won by identical 7-3 scores over Cedar Crest College and DeSales University.
 
Game 1 vs. Cedar Crest
The Dutchmen scored three times in the first and twice more in the second inning to open up a 5-1 lead on the Falcons. Both teams scored a run in the fourth and sixth innings while Jordan Walter pitched a complete game to earn the first win of the year.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Lexi Smith had a huge game in the leadoff spot as the first-year second baseman went 3-for-4, was a home run away from the cycle, and scored three runs.
  • Sam Burns and Julia Craig knocked in a pair of run each while Morgan Comfort went 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI, and two stolen bases.
  • Jessica Truitt had one hit, one RBI, and a run scored.
  • Walter allowed two earned runs on four hits, two walks, and struck out five while facing 30 batters.
Game 2 vs. DeSales
The bats stayed hot in the first innings against the Bulldogs as they Dutchmen scored twice. DeSales evened the score with a pair of runs in the fourth innings before LVC plated two in the bottom half and then put the game away with a three-run fifth.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Kylie Balthaser led the offense with two hits in three at-bats, two RBI, and two runs scored. She hit a triple that scored the go-ahead run in the fourth inning.
  • Smith stayed hot in the leadoff spot recording two hits in four at-bats and scored a run.
  • Lindsey McCurdy had two hits, including a triple, knocked in a run and scored a run.
  • The Dutchmen hit three triples in the game as Sam Burns began the scoring with a three-bagger to right in the first inning.
  • Erin Sinatra pitched a complete game to earn the win. She allowed one earned run on seven hits with three walks and five strikeouts. 
Who's Next
LVC will enjoy an off day on Tuesday before returning to the field on Wednesday morning for a game against Montclair State at 9:30 a.m. on Field 6. The Dutchmen will then play Eastern Mennonite at 3:30 p.m. on Field 2 at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex.
