ANNVILLE, Pa. –
Shane Stossel hit a moon shot to left field in the first inning of Sunday's Lebanon Valley baseball game against Franklin & Marshall College. The Diplomats used a seven-run second inning to defeat the Dutchmen 17-11 on McGill Field.
LVC (11-8) had a big first inning against F&M ace Kyle Roche. The Dutchmen scored four runs on five hits against the 2021 second team All-American forcing the Diplomats to go to their bullpen early. Franklin & Marshall (9-8) responded with a seven-run second to take an 8-4 lead. Both teams scored two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, and two in the eighth. The Diplomats scored twice in the ninth to set the final score.
Inside the Box Score
- Stossel's two-run homer was his second of the year. He crushed a 2-2 pitch nearly hitting the road beyond the left field fence to give the Dutchmen a 4-1 lead.
- Mike Bulgia had three hits and drew two walks in six plate appearances. The senior recorded his fifth multi-hit game of the year while scoring a season-high three runs.
- Ethan O'Loughlin had another strong game at the plate with two doubles and three runs batted in. He also scored a run.
- Dave Mangold got on base three times and scored three runs while Ryan Murphy scored twice.
- The Dutchmen hit a season-high three sacrifice flies in the game while scoring over 10 runs for the fifth time this year.
- Jacob Horton pitched two efficient innings in relief. He stuck out four and threw 27 pitches to eight batters.
Who's Next
Lebanon Valley will head into conference play this week starting off with a rematch of last year's Championship series with York. The Dutchmen will travel down to York on Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. start before hosting the Spartans on Friday.
