OWINGS MILLS, Md. –
Jordan Walter earned a win and a save for the second straight series as the Lebanon Valley College softball team ran their winning streak to 13 games with an important Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth sweep of host Stevenson University.
Game 1
The Dutchmen (12-2) struck first with a pair of runs in the second inning. The Mustangs (9-3) cut the lead in half with a home run by their pitcher, Marissa Heuer in the bottom half. LVC responded with three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, and three in the seventh to come away with a 10-1 victory.
Inside the Box Score
- The Dutchmen had a season-high 17 hits with Sam Burns, Julia Craig, and Anna Marie Hockman all recording three-hit games. Craig also knocked in three runs.
- Kylie Balthaser hit her second career home run in the seventh inning. Craig, Lindsey McCurdy, and Balthaser all hit doubles for the Dutchmen.
- The 10 runs and seven stolen bases in the game are both season-highs. Burns and Morgan Comfort stole two bases each.
- Walter improved to 7-1 with a strong complete game victory in the circle. She was very efficient throwing 70 pitches. Walter struck out three and allowed just one run on three hits.
Game 2
Stevenson (9-4) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Dutchmen (13-2) responded with one run in the third and two runs in the fourth to tie the game. Hockman singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth and then McCurdy homered in the seventh to give LVC a 5-3 victory.
Inside the Box Score
- Hockman knocked in the tying and winning runs with a double to center in the fourth and a single through the left side in the sixth.
- Comfort had three of LVC's nine hits in the game and scored two runs.
- Sinatra earned her sixth win of the year after a rough first inning. The sophomore settled in and went six innings with four strikeouts. She retired eight straight batters from the second to the fourth inning and didn't allow a Mustang to reach second base until the seventh inning.
- Walter earned her second save of the year after relieving Sinatra with two on and no outs in the seventh. The junior induced two ground outs and a pop up to second to end the game.
Who's Next
The Dutchmen will be back in action on Tuesday with a trip north to Susquehanna University for a pair of games. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Selinsgrove.
