ANNVILLE, Pa. –
Max Kaplan came off the bench to knock in two runs on two hits and scored a run in two at-bats for the Lebanon Valley College baseball team on Thursday afternoon in a tough 12-5 defeat to Saint Elizabeth University on McGill Field in Annville.
The Eagles (4-10) scored four runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead. LVC (10-6) came right back and scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead in half. The Dutchmen chipped away at the lead with another run in the sixth before a big six-run inning by SEU in the seventh gave the Eagles a 12-4 lead. LVC scored a run in the seventh before the umpires called the game.
Inside the Box Score
- Kaplan entered the game as a defensive sub in the fifth and knocked in the first run for the Dutchmen with a single to left on a full count in the bottom of the inning. He then hit another single to left in the sixth to score Andrew Miles and cut the lead to 6-4.
- Ryan Murphy extended his team-leading 11-game hitting streak with a single to center to lead off the fifth and then scored on Kaplan's single two batters later.
- Pete Botbyl had a hit and scored a run while Bryan Mowery also had a hit and knocked in a run.
- Nico Santoro and Mike Bulgia knocked in a run each. Santoro also stole a base and recorded five assists in the field.
- The Dutchmen used five different pitchers. Bryce Eberly struck out four batters while Dylan Lower struck out three and Sam Dozier struck out one.
Who's Next
LVC will take on Catholic University of America on Saturday in a doubleheader at McGill Field. Game one will begin at 12 p.m. with the second game slated to begin around 3 p.m. in Annville.
