Venezia And Zimmerman Lead Women’s Lacrosse To Big Comeback Win At Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. Veronica Venezia had five goals for the third straight game and Sydney Zimmerman had a season-high four assists to propel the Lebanon Valley College women's lacrosse team to a thrilling 10-9 victory at Misericordia University on Mangelsdorf Field in Dallas.

The host Cougars (3-4) scored the first four goals of the game to take a 4-1 lead after one quarter of play. LVC (4-4) used a big second quarter to tie the game before Misericordia took a 5-4 halftime lead with a goal with four seconds left. The Dutchmen outscored the Cougars 3-2 in both the third and fourth quarters to earn the victory. MU scored with 21 seconds left to cut the LVC lead to one and called a timeout. The Cougars won the draw control, but Lebanon Valley's defense held tight and didn't allow a shot before time expired.

Inside the Box Score
  • Venezia put nine of her 11 shots on goal to score her five goals. She also added two assists. The attacker scored all three of the Dutchmen's second quarter goals and then scored what would be the game-winning goal with 2:40 left in the fourth quarter.
  • Zimmerman didn't score a goal for the first time all year, but she was just as important to the offense dishing out four assists.
  • Emily Beard scored a pair of goals in the game to give her 12 on the year. She got the scoring started in the first quarter and then scored a woman-up goal in the fourth to put the Dutchmen up 9-7. Beard has scored two goals or more in five games this year.
  • Bailey Dills gave LVC their first lead of the game at 12:25 of the fourth with her second goal of the game. Venezia had the assist on the goal as she fed Dills a pass from behind the goal.
  • The Dutchmen defense did an excellent job limiting Misericordia's offense to just 17 total shots and 11 on goal. Meanwhile, the offense took 37 shots, their second-most this year. LVC forced 26 turnovers and picked up 27 ground balls. They were 16-19 on clear attempts and held MU to 18-28 on their clears.
  • Julia Abendschoen picked up a team-high five ground balls while Brittany Hathaway caused a team-high three turnovers and won a team-best five draw controls.
