Walter and Sinatra Pitch Softball To First-Ever Sweep of 15th-Ranked Moravian

ANNVILLE, Pa.Jordan Walter earned a complete game win and a save while Erin Sinatra tossed 5.1 strong innings to lead the Lebanon Valley College softball team to a historical sweep of 15th-ranked Moravian University on Tuesday at the LVC Softball Park. The Dutchmen swept the Greyhounds for the first time by scores of 5-3 and 4-3 to hand Moravian their first two losses of the season.
 
Game 1
Moravian (12-1) scored first plating a run in the first and then two more in the fourth. LVC (10-2) came right back in the bottom of the fourth with three runs to tie the game. The Dutchmen scored twice in the sixth to earn the win.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Alicia Gotts had the big hit for the Dutchmen in the fourth as she cleared the bases with a bases-loaded double to right center on a 2-2 pitch. She also had an infield single to short in the sixth inning.
  • Kylie Balthaser knocked in the winning run with a double to left center on the first pitch she saw. Anna Marie Hockman knocked in the final run as Tori Hunyara scored on a grounder to second.
  • Sam Burns and Morgan Comfort had two hits in the game while Comfort also scored two runs.
  • Walter shut down the Greyhounds after the fourth inning to earn her sixth win of the year. She struck out three and allowed six hits with four of those hits coming in the fourth inning.
  • Julia Craig had a busy day at first making 13 putouts and one assist. Hockman was at the other end of most of those putouts with seven assists. 
Game 2
The Greyhounds (12-2) got to Sinatra early scoring twice in the second inning on a pair of manufactured runs. The Dutchmen offense backed their starter with a three-spot in the third to take the lead. They added an important run in the fifth before Moravian plated the final run of the game in the sixth.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • The Dutchmen started the third inning with consecutive singles by Smith, Burns, and Craig with the third single plating a run. Comfort knocked in the second run with a one-out single to left on the first pitch she saw. Craig scored the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to right by Balthaser.
  • Hockman had a huge hit in the fifth as she singled home Balthaser from second with the eventual game-winning run.
  • The top three hitters in the lineup, Smith, Burns, and craig had two hits each while Balthaser also had two hits in the game.
  • Sinatra earned the win in the circle with 5.1 innings pitched. Walter came in to get out of a jam in the sixth. She earned her first save of the year by getting the final five outs. All five outs with ground balls and Walter needed just six batters to complete the sweep.
  • Lebanon Valley defeat Moravian for the first time since 2009. The Dutchmen have now won 11 straight games after dropping a pair on Opening Day. 
Who's Next
LVC will travel down to Maryland on Saturday for a big MAC Commonwealth matchup with Stevenson University. The first game is scheduled for 1 p.m. with game two to follow.
