ANNVILLE, Pa. –
Julia Craig knocked in four runs in the opener and
Alicia Gotts hit her first career home run in the nightcap to lead the Lebanon Valley College softball team to a sweep of Gettysburg College in the team's first home games of the season on Friday afternoon. LVC won the opener 9-0 in five innings and then completed the sweep with a 4-1 victory in game two.
Game 1
The Dutchmen (6-2) used a big five-run third inning to build a lead over the Bullets (7-2). Craig began the scoring with a two-RBI double. LVC added four more runs in the fifth including another two-RBI double by Craig to end the game.
Inside the Box Score
- Craig had a career-high four RBIs on two hits and scored a run. This was her third multi-hit game of the year
- Jordan Walter pitched her second straight complete game shutout to improve to 4-1 on the year. The sophomore struck out four and scattered four hits.
- Anna Marie Hockman knocked in a pair of runs and scored a run in three plate appearances. She hit a sacrifice fly in the third and then singled through the right side to score Morgan Comfort with the first run of the fifth.
- Comfort and Sam Burns had two hits each. Lexi Smith had another fantastic game in the leadoff spot with three hits in four at-bats.
- Eight different Dutchmen recorded 13 total hits.
Game 2
Gettysburg (7-3) struck first in the pitcher's duel with an unearned run in the fifth inning. In the bottom of the inning Gotts gave the Dutchmen (7-2) the lead with a two-run blast over the left field fence on a 0-1 pitch. LVC added two more runs in the sixth to give
Erin Sinatra a cushion in the circle.
Inside the Box Score
- Sinatra had another brilliant pitching performance with nine strikeouts. She got out of a jam in the fourth innings with runners on first and second with one out by striking out two batters. She then struck out three batters in the sixth after a leadoff walk.
- Gotts picked a great time for her first collegiate hit with her homer in the fifth to give LVC the lead.
- Craig extended her hitting streak to nine games with a single in the fourth inning.
- Lindsey McCurdy knocked in a run with a bunt to the first baseman in the sixth where the throw home was late to catch Burns from scoring. McCurdy advanced all the way around the bases and scored on a passed ball for the final run.
- The Dutchmen stole five bases in the game with Comfort leading the way with three. Burns and Tori Hunyara also had a stolen base.
- The Dutchmen have now won five straight games against the Bullets dating back to 2018. LVC is 11-4 against Gettysburg since 2012.
Who's Next
Conference plays starts for the Dutchmen on Sunday. LVC will host Albright for a doubleheader at the LVC Softball Park beginning at 1 p.m.
