Big Second Half Propels Dutchmen To First Conference Win At York

YORK, Pa. – In a game of runs the Lebanon Valley College men's basketball team had the last laugh as they outscored host York College of Pennsylvania 22-6 over the final seven minutes to defeat the Spartans 74-67 on Tuesday evening inside Wolf Gymnasium in York.
 
LVC (3-5, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) got off to a quick start as Payton Lewis knocked down a three and then Ryan Harder hit a jumper for a 5-0 lead. York (2-5, 0-3 MAC Commonwealth) scored the next seven points to take their first lead of the game. Kegan Hertz threw down a dunk to tie the game at nine and start a 9-0 run to put the Dutchmen up seven with 13:37 to go in the half. The Spartans responded with a run of their own to take a 23-19 lead with just under nine minutes left. York kept up the strong play and took a 42-31 lead into the half.
 
The Dutchmen began the second half on a 8-2 run to cut the lead down to five. The Spartans responded with a 15-6 run to take the largest lead of the game at 14 points with 10:26 remaining. Luis Garcia knocked down a three to start a 10-2 run over a two-minute span to cut the York advantage in half. The Spartans led 62-57 with six minutes to go before Evan Smith hit a jumper and then a three-pointer to even the score. Ryan Harder knocked down a pair of free throws and then Smith hit another three to give the Dutchmen a five-point lead with 2:50 left. LVC held the Spartans to just two made field goals over the final 2:30 and made five of six free throws down the stretch to pull out the big road victory.

  • Smith fueled the comeback win with 11 second half points.
  • Lewis finished with 16 points, including six in the second half. He added five rebounds and four assists.
  • Collin Jones led the team with 17 points and pulled down six rebounds while dishing out four assists.
  • Harder recorded his third double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. He also blocked two shots.
  • Garcia scored all six of his points in the second half to aide in the comeback.
  • LVC shot a season-best 52.9-percent from the field and 71.4-percent on free throws.
  • The Dutchmen have now won the last three meetings against the Spartans.

Lebanon Valley will play their final home game of the semester on Saturday with another conference battle against Hood College. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside Sorrentino Gymnasium.
