Hevelow Leads Women’s Basketball With 22 Points At Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa. – Riley Hevelow scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Lebanon Valley women's basketball team in a tough 58-52 defeat at Marywood University on Friday afternoon in Scranton.
 
The Dutchmen (5-6) took a 5-2 on a jumper by Samya Santiague and a three pointer from Hevelow in the opening minutes. The host Pacers (10-2) scored the next six points to take a 8-5 lead before Kailey Eckhart and Daelyn Stabler scored in the paint to give LVC back the lead. The teams traded buckets until Hevelow knocked down a jumper with 2:20 to go and then Jordan Zimmerman hit a trey on the next trip down to give the Dutchmen a 21-16 lead. Lebanon Valley took a 24-20 lead into the second quarter. Marywood outscored the Dutchmen 11-1 in the second period of play to take a 31-25 lead into the break.
 
After the Pacers scored the first bucket of the second half, Hevelow hit a pair of jumpers to bring the Dutchmen within four. Marywood got the lead back up to seven before a basket by Hevelow and a layup by Eckhart with just over four minutes to play brought the score to 38-35. The Pacers ended the quarter on a 4-0 run to take a seven point lead into the final quarter. LVC battles throughout the final 10 minutes and closed the advantage down to three points at 53-50 with a little over two to play on a steal and layup by Stabler. Hevelow made it a one-point games on a jumper in the paint following a big steal by Jordan Zimmerman with 1:30 to go. Marywood stopped the run with a jumper and then grabbed a defensive rebound to get the ball back with 42 seconds to play and a three-point lead. The Pacers finished the game at the foul line making three of six free throws.

  • Hevelow had a season-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
  • Eckhart had a huge game with 19 points and nine rebounds for her first career game in double digit points.
  • Stabler had a game-high 14 rebounds and scored six points while dishing out four assists.
  • LVC committed a season-low eight turnovers.

The Dutchmen return to conference play next week with a trip to Stevenson on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Owings Mills.
