OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson used a strong third quarter to pull away and defeat LVC's women's basketball team, 71-61, in a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth matchup on Saturday, Jan. 22.
Kate Fitzpatrick finished with 20 points and led three Dutchmen in double figures.
Cristina Fernandez recorded 12 points, four rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
Daelyn Stabler added 10 points to go with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
How It Happened
- LVC led 20-14 after the first quarter behind a hot-shooting start from Fitzpatrick who knocked down five of her first six shots.
- The teams flipped the script in the second quarter. Stevenson's Kellie Johnson had the hot hand with 10 points for the Mustangs who pulled even at 34-34 going into halftime.
- The hot-shooting continued for Stevenson in the third as they scored the first 11 points of the stanza. Olivia Coleman tossed in 10 points in the quarter, pushing the Mustangs to a 55-43 lead.
- In the fourth, LVC climbed to within six at two different points on buckets by Samya Santiague and Stabler, but Stevenson squashed the rally each time.
Inside the Numbers
- Fitzpatrick scored at least 20 points for the fourth straight game and has hit double digits in five consecutive.
- LVC capitalized on the Mustangs' miscues, turning 15 turnovers into 24 points.
- Stevenson held a big advantage in free throws—32 to LVC's 10. The Mustangs also dominated the glass, which led to 23 second-chance points.
