How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley College's Football team dominated King's (Pa.) College 24-6 in a complete-team effort on Saturday. The Flying Dutchmen earned their first conference win of the young season and evened their record to 2-2, 1-1 MAC, while the Monarchs fell to 1-2, 0-2 MAC.
First Quarter
- Near the midway point of the first period, LVC opened a drive at the Monarchs' 47-yard line after the Dutchmen's defense stopped King's on 4th and 1. QB Braden Bohannon began the drive with a 37-yard bomb to Andrew Olson to the Monarchs 10-yard line. After a rush for no gain, followed by back-to-back sacks by King's, the Dutchmen were pushed all the way back to the 25-yard line on 4th and goal. Bohannon then tossed one up into the endzone for Olson who bobbled it initially, but then came down with the acrobatic TD-catch. After Kevin Roberts' extra point, LVC went ahead 7-0 with 9:46 left in the opening quarter. From there, the Dutchmen's defense continued to limit King's and held their 7-0 lead after one period of action.
Second Quarter
- The Dutchmen found paydirt again in the second quarter with a drive that started at their own 33-yard line. Bohannon found TE Joe Underwood for 18 yards, followed by a 10-yard strike to Cameron Niemeyer for 10. Later in the drive, on 3rd and 25, Malaki Williams found open space and rushed for 21 yards. LVC elected to go for it on 4th and 4 and Bohannon found Niemeyer again, this time for 24 yards all the way to the Monarchs' nine-yard line. On 2nd and goal, Bohannon completed the eight-play, 67-yard drive with touchdown pass to Niemeyer and LVC went up 14-0.
- King's answered with its best drive of the game, however, highlighted by Tekoah Guedes' rush for 13 yards on 3rd and 9 that brought the visitors to LVC's six-yard line. On the Monarchs' next play, Guedes kept it on the ground and ran for the six-yard TD. The extra-point attempt failed, and LVC was still on top 14-6. For the remainder of the half, the Dutchmen's defense continued to hold steady and the home squad took a 14-6 lead into halftime.Â
Third Quarter
- Late in the third, LVC began a drive at the Monarchs' 41-yard line and the drive began with Ian Murhon's 24-yard rush to the 17-yard line. Bohannon then found Niemeyer on back-to-back completions, but King's halted the drive and LVC settled for Kevin Roberts' 21-yard field goal that put the Dutchmen ahead 17-6.Â
Fourth Quarter
- On the Monarchs' opening drive of the final quarter, the Dutchmen's defense stepped up again when Jordan Bowie intercepted Guedes at LVC's 37-yard line. LVC's offense then turned it into points when Bohannon found Ryan Eshlemen for 21 yards on 4th and 2 for the touchdown that put the game out of reach at 24-6.
