How It Happened
CHESTER, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's Football team was stifled by Widener University and fell 24-3 on Saturday afternoon in each team's Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) opener. The Pride stayed undefeated and moved to 3-0, while the Flying Dutchmen dropped to 1-2.

First Quarter
  • After three consecutive combined 3-and-outs to begin this afternoon's game, Widener started a drive with 11 minutes left in the opening quarter and used Shawn Thompson four consecutive times on the ground to gain a total of 13 yards. The Pride continued their drive and it later ended with QB Triston Harris' 15-yard TD-pass to Ty Holbert, giving the home team a 7-0 lead with 4:57 to go in the opening quarter.
  • The Dutchmen answered on their ensuing drive, as the drive began with Braden Bohannon's 46-yard bomb to Andrew Olson that brought LVC to Widener's 35-yard line. Then, Bohannon's 10-yard rush brought the Dutchmen to the Pride's 25-yard line, and Ian Murhon rushed for three yards to put LVC at the 22-yard line. The drive then stalled out, but Kevin Roberts knocked through a 40-yard field goal, bringing the visiting Dutchmen to within four at 7-3 with 2:31 to go in the first.
Second Quarter
  • At 13:56 of the second frame, the Pride put together another long drive that resulted in points. Widener used Shawn Thompson on the ground five times and the drive was highlighted by Harris' 22-yard completion to Holbert, as Larry Eimer knocked through a 20-yard field goal to increase Widener's lead to 10-3 with 7:26 left in the second.
  • LVC couldn't get anything going offensively on its next drive, but on the Pride's next drive, Harris' pass on 2nd and 17 at LVC's 48-yard line was picked off by Erik Williams, who returned it 17 yards with just 31 seconds left in the second. Williams' interception kept the Dutchmen within seven at 10-3 heading into halftime.
Third Quarter
  • Widener's first series of the third quarter ended like their last drive in the second after Williams once again picked off Harris and returned it 21 yards all the way to Widener's 34-yard line. Unfortunately, Bohannon's pass on LVC's next drive was intercepted by Anthony Jordan and he took it 12 yards to the Duthcmen's 46-yard line.
  • The Pride turned an LVC turnover into points, as Harris found Tevin Hill for 11 yards with 6:08 to go in the third, putting Widener ahead 17-3.
  • On the Pride's kickoff, Cameron Niemeyer returned it 94 yards for a touchdown, but it was nullified by an LVC penalty and the Dutchmen missed out on an opportunity to make it a one-score game.
  • Bohannon used his legs, however, on the next drive and got all the way down to Widener's 10-yard line quickly, but his pass on 2nd and 5 was intercepted by Keith Cheek, Jr. and the Pride's defense once again came away unscathed after LVC was knocking on the door.
Fourth Quarter
  • It looked like the Dutchmen were getting the ball back early in the fourth, but a muffed punt by LVC led to a Bryce Casey eight-yard touchdown for the Pride with 12:40 left in the game to make it a 24-3 contest. From there, the Dutchmen were unable to generate any more points, as Widener's defense made it tough for LVC all day, resulted in the 24-3 defeat.
