ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's Women's Tennis edged Alvernia 5-2 in the MAC Commonwealth semifinals on Thursday afternoon. LVC improves to 10-1 on the season while Alvernia ends the year at 5-6. The Dutchmen advance to their second conference championship match in the last three seasons.
In doubles play, the Dutchmen picked up a pair of victories to hold the 2-1 advantage into singles action. The Dutchmen picked up their first win at #3 doubles as
Meridyth Sanders and
Zoe Birch won 8-4. At #2 doubles,
Madison Poladian and
Emily Wilczek recorded an 8-2 victory to give LVC the early lead.
In singles play, LVC won three of the four singles matches that finished before the Dutchmen clinched the overall victory.
Zoe Birch at #6 singles picked up the first win in with a 6-3, 6-1 match to put LVC ahead 3-1. Alvernia would win one of the matches to make it 3-2 but
Meredith Haas would win at #2 singles while overcoming a first-set loss to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-0. The Dutchmen would clinch the match as
Meridyth Sanders outlasted her opponent 6-3, 7-5 to lift LVC into the championship match.
