OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Lebanon Valley Softball Team upset the second-seeded Stevenson Mustangs in a sweep on Saturday afternoon to advance to the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals. LVC took game one 8-1 before topping Stevenson 10-0 in six innings in the nightcap. LVC's overall record is now 16-14 while Stevenson ends the season at 18-10.
The Dutchmen got on the board in the first inning without recording a hit but taking advantage of two Mustang errors to take an early 1-0 lead. In the circle,
Sarah Musselman was in control all game long and kept Stevenson off the scoreboard through the first four innings. With LVC ahead 1-0 in the fourth, the Dutchmen would knock around four hits to score three runs and push their lead out to four.
Lindsey McCurdy started the scoring with an RBI-single.
Musselman helped her own cause a few batters later with a two-run single to cap the three-run frame.
In the fifth, another Stevenson error would lead to LVC's fifth run of the game as they now held a five-run advantage. The Mustangs would manage their only run of the entire afternoon in the bottom half of the inning on a sac fly, bringing the game to a 5-1 score with just two innings remaining in the opener.
LVC would answer with three insurance runs in the top of the sixth to essentially put the game out of reach. Musselman would walk, steal second, and then later score on another Mustang error to make it 6-1.
Julia Craig and
Julia Forsythe would add. RBI-hits later in the frame to balloon the lead to 8-1. Musselman would close the door and LVC would win an important game one 8-1.
Inside The Numbers
- Sarah Musselman had an all-around game for LVC as she tossed a complete game with only one earned run allowed and four strikeouts while also going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and two stolen bases.
- Jen Kaufman led LVC with three hits and also stole two bases. Julia Forsythe and Lindsey McCurdy also finished with multi-hit performances.
- LVC stole seven bases while Stevenson stole four.
- Stevenson committed five errors in the field while LVC made just two miscues.

Game two was dominated from start to finished by the Dutchmen en route to a double-digit victory. After reaching on an error,
Jen Kaufman scored the opening run on a
Julia Craig sac fly to put LVC ahead early. Another Stevenson error in the second would lead to a second Dutchmen run as LVC held a 2-0 lead through two innings.
Jordan Walter continued where
Sarah Musselman left off in the first game as she kept the Mustang hitters off balance all afternoon long. LVC would add to their lead in the fourth inning with a two-run double by Musselman followed by an RBI-single by Kaufman and LVC jumped ahead 5-0.
With Stevenson on the ropes, LVC tacked on five runs on seven hits in the sixth inning. Musselman,
Lindsey McCurdy, and
Julia Forsythe all picked up RBI-hits in the inning and the Dutchmen were now ahead 10-0 and just three outs away from upsetting Stevenson and advancing to the semifinals. Walter would retire the Mustangs in order in the bottom of the sixth to clinch the win for the Dutchmen.

- Jordan Walter tossed a complete-game shutout allowing just six hits and striking out a pair.
- Sarah Musselman led LVC's offense going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
- Jen Kaufman also recorded two hits for LVC and Julia Forsythe added two RBI.
- LVC continued to be aggressive on the base paths stealing eight bases in the win.
- The Dutchmen outhit Stevenson 11-6 for the game.
What's Next?
The Dutchmen advance to the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals after eliminating the second-seeded Mustangs today. Lebanon Valley will await the winner of the No. 3 vs No. 6 matchup between York (Pa.) and Widener. That series is tied 1-1 with a winner-take-all game three being held at Widener tomorrow afternoon.
