YORK, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Softball Team had their season come to a close with a pair of defeats at the hands of the York College (Pa.) Spartans on Saturday afternoon. LVC fell 15-4 in the opener and were shutout 6-0 in the second game of the set to be eliminated from the MAC Commonwealth Tournament in the semifinal round. LVC finishes their season with a 16-16 record while the Spartans improve to 16-9 and will host Messiah in next week's championship series.

LVC jumped ahead in the top of the first with an RBI-groundout, but the Spartans offense would find their groove the rest of the way and the Dutchmen offense had no answers. Trailing 1-0, York would respond with an Alyssa Harhigh RBI-double in the first before scoring four more runs in the second to grab a 5-1 lead.

The Spartans would really bust the game open in the third as they plated seven runs in the frame. Harhigh would add a three-run homer in the fourth and the Dutchmen found themselves down 15-1 headed to the fifth inning. LVC would score three runs in the fifth coming from a Danni Holmes double, a wild pitch, and a York error, but the game would end right there at 15-4 in five innings.

Inside The Numbers
  • Julia Forsythe and Danni Holmes picked up the lone RBI for the Dutchmen on the afternoon.
  • York's Alyssa Harhigh had herself an afternoon as she went 4-for-4 with 7 RBI and a home run.
  • The Dutchmen were outhit 11-6 in the first game.

The bats in game two for LVC were also held in check as York's Shyla Pastore tossed her second complete game of the day. With the score tied 0-0 in the bottom of the third, Elle Meyer singled up the middle to give the Spartans the 1-0 lead. A few innings later, Daphney Adams pushed a two-run single through the left side of the Dutchmen infield to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Dutchmen offense could only muster five hits in game two and a two-run double by Alyssa Harhigh all but put LVC's hopes of forcing a game three out of reach as they fell 6-0 in game two.
