ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's offense was held in check all game as they were shutout 6-0 against Eastern University in a makeup game from earlier this season. The Dutchmen fall to 7-9, 7-9 MACC while the Eagles improve to 6-6, 6-6 MACC on the season.
Neither offense was impressive early on as both pitchers kept the opposition off balance. Through five innings, Eastern managed three hits while the Dutchmen offense could only muster one. Eastern would finally crack the scoreless battle in the top of the sixth as the Eagles plated three runs on five hits. The Eagles started the inning with five consecutive singles and a Grace Gonzalez two-run single got Eastern on the board. The Eagles would add their third run on a bases-loaded HBP to grab a 3-0 lead.
After a scoreless bottom of the sixth for LVC, Eastern would collect four more hits to score three more runs on a Gonzalez three-run homer and double their lead to 6-0. The Dutchmen would go hitless in the final frame and fall 6-0 to the Eagles on Wednesday afternoon.
Inside The Numbers
- The Dutchmen offense was quieted and held to just two hits, their second lowest total on the season.
- Eastern's Grace Gonzalez was the game's offensive leader driving in five runs on a pair of hits, one being a three-run homer.
- Lia D'Angelo recorded both hits for the Dutchmen offense.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen return home their next time out when they host Wilkes University in a MAC crossover doubleheader at LVC Softball Park this Saturday. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
