How It Happened
FREDERICK, Md. – Lebanon Valley's Women's Lacrosse team outscored Hood College 12-6 in the second half and took down the Blazers 22-11 in each team's regular-season finale on Wednesday night in MAC Commonwealth action. The Flying Dutchmen moved to 6-6, 4-4 MACC and Hood went to 3-8, 2-5 MACC.
After the Blazers began the scoring less than a minute into the first half, LVC rattled off five straight to take a 5-1 advantage with 17:19 left. During that spurt,
Sydney Zimmerman and
Jaclyn Little each netted a pair, while
Brittany Hathaway began the run with a goal from
Veronica Venezia, who had four assists during LVC's all-important run.
Later, with the Dutchmen ahead 6-2, Hood began to come back with three consecutive goals to make it 6-5 with 7:58 left. LVC answered again, however, beginning with Venezia's goal at 5:18. Hathaway then found the back of the net off an assist from
Bailey Dills, followed by another Venezia tally and a goal by
Livia Jackson as the Dutchmen ended the first on a 5-0 run to take a 10-5 lead into the second half.
In the second half, LVC's offense continued to fire on all cylinders. Dills scored at 26:34 and
Emily Beard netted a goal just over a minute later. Then, after the Blazers came to within eight at 17-9 with 15 minutes to go, LVC put the game out of reach thanks to another 5-0 run. From there, LVC cruised to a 22-11 victory to close out the regular season.
Inside the Numbers
- Hathaway was all over the field tonight, as she scored six goals and controlled four draws.
- Venezia went for 10 points (four goals, six assists) and she added a game-high seven draw controls.
- Little went for four goals, three ground balls, and a pair of caused turnovers.
- Zimmerman netted a hat trick and added two assists.

Erin Zieber scored twice, controlled four draws, and scooped up two ground balls.

Julia Abendschoen picked up the win in net after making nine saves in 45:20 of action.
- The Dutchmen led in total shots at 31-24.
- LVC went 14-for-17 in clears and Hood was 12-for-16.
- The visiting Dutchmen also held the edge in draw controls at 19-15.
MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament Set
After tonight's victory, the Dutchmen are locked in at the No. 5 seed in next week's MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament and will travel to No. 4 Stevenson on Tuesday, April 27 with the time to be announced this weekend.
