How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Stevens Institute of Technology outscored Lebanon Valley 9-3 in the second half en route to a 17-9 win over the Flying Dutchmen on Thursday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action. LVC dropped to 4-3 and the Ducks improved to 3-3.
Â
The visitors netted the game's first two goals as Kyra Bednarski found the back of the net at 29:09 and 25:36 of the first.
Jaclyn Little followed that up with her 17th tally of the season, but the Ducks answered by netting two straight to take a 4-1 lead with 23:28 to go in the opening half.
Â
LVC answered when
Veronica Venezia scored her 16th of the season, followed by
Erin Zieber's fifth goal of the year at 20:50. Each time LVC got to within a goal in the first, Stevens always had the answer. Bednarski and Morgan Westerby went back-to-back to make it 6-3 in favor of the Ducks, but Venezia brought the Dutchmen back to within two with a goal at 16:03. After Steven's Emily Shanklin made it 7-4, Little and Venezia netted two consecutive goals to make it 7-6, but Shanklin scored with 8:50 left to give the Ducks an 8-6 lead heading into halftime.
Â
Venezia scored her fourth of the game early in the second to make it 8-7, but a huge run by the Ducks proved to be the difference in the end. Stevens scored eight straight to take a commanding 16-7 advantage with 10:15 left.
Emily Beard and
