READING Pa. – The Lebanon Valley softball team dropped a pair of conference games at first-place Alvernia on Monday afternoon. The Dutchmen fall to 3-8, 3-8 MACC on the season while Alvernia improves to 10-1, 10-1 MACC.
Alvernia would get on the board in the bottom of the first scoring a pair of runs to build a 2-0 lead that they would never relinquish. The Golden Wolves scored both runs on a Kerstin Koenig single to grab the early lead. The Dutchmen would get one run back in the top half of the second as they took advantage of some free passes given by Alvernia pitching.
Lindsey McCurdy drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home
Kylie Balthaser to cut the lead in half, but LVC would be unable to add any more and leave the bases loaded.
That one run was the only offense LVC could muster for the game and Alvernia would get two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to push their lead out to 4-1. LVC would go down in order in the top of the seventh as the Dutchmen dropped game one 4-1.
Inside The Numbers
- Kylie Balthaser scored the only run of the game for LVC.
- The Dutchmen only had three hits for the game, Alvernia was able to record seven hits.
- Jordan Walter had a solid outing in the circle despite the loss tossing six innings allowing four earned runs and striking out six.
- Ally Decker pitched the complete game for Alvernia allowing just three hits and the one earned run.

Game two was dominated by Riley Shields in the circle for the Golden Wolves as she allowed just one hit in a shutout of the LVC offense. Alvernia would bring home a run in the second and third innings to grab a 2-0 lead and would blow the game open in the bottom of the fourth as they posted a five-run frame. The Dutchmen couldn't figure out Shields all afternoon long and could only manage two baserunners in the contest as they fell 8-0 in six innings.
Inside The Numbers
- Kylie Balthaser recorded the lone hit in the game for the Dutchmen.
- Riley Shields tossed a complete-game shutout with just one hit and six strikeouts for Alvernia.
- Shields also had a game at the plate going 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Golden Wolves offense.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen are back in action this Friday when they return to Reading, Pa. this time to take on Albright College. The doubleheader starts at 3 p.m.
