ANNVILLE Pa. – The Lebanon Valley softball team were swept by Alvernia on Saturday afternoon as the Golden Wolves pitching kept the Dutchmen offense quiet for a majority of the day. LVC falls to 3-6, 3-6 MACC on the year while Alvernia improves to 9-1, 9-1 MACC.
The Dutchmen had their hands full in the first game of the day as the faced Alvernia's Riley Shields who had yet to allow a run in 24.2 innings this season. LVC would break that streak in the bottom of the second when
Tori Hunyara launched a first-pitch homer over the fence in left field to give the Dutchmen the early 1-0 lead.
After a scoreless third inning, Alvernia would tie the game up on a Paige Paciolla triple to right field. The teams would head to the fifth deadlocked 1-1. The Golden Wolves offense would explode in the fifth pounding out six hits en route to scoring nine runs with the first eight batters of the inning reaching base safely to push the lead to 10-1. In the bottom of the inning,
Julia Craig would single home
Hannah Bashore to make it 10-2 but LVC would get no closer and fall 10-2 in five innings in the opener.
Inside The Numbers
- Tori Hunyara hit her first career homer in the second inning.
- Julia Craig put together some nice ABs and finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
- Four Golden Wolves hitters recorded two RBI.
- Riley Shields improved to 5-0 in the circle for Alvernia with five innings allowing her first two runs on the year.
- Neither team committed an error in the first game.

In the nightcap, pitching reigned supreme early as both
Sarah Musselman and Ally Decker had it working in the circle with both not allowing a hit through the first three innings. Alvernia would finally crack that drought with five hits in the top of the fourth on their way to plating three runs in the inning. A Tara Tumasz two-run triple would get Alvernia on the board and she would later come in to score on an Allison Kirschner single as the Golden Wolves now led 3-0.
The Dutchmen would respond in the bottom half of the frame plating a pair of runs on two hits to cut the deficit to just one.
Kylie Balthaser would come up with the bases loaded and would lace a two-run single to center to bring home
Tori Hunyara and
Julia Craig.
That would be the only runs LVC would score in the game and Alvernia would add three insurance runs in the top of the sixth to push their lead to 6-2 that would carry through to the final.
Inside The Numbers
- Kylie Balthaser led LVC's offense with two hits and two RBI. Lia D'Angelo also finished with two hits for LVC.
- Tara Tumasz and Alyssa Acker paced the Golden Wolves with a pair of hits and RBI each.
- Alvernia outhit LVC 11-5 in the contest.
- LVC committed two errors in the field while Alvernia was clean defensively.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen will take on the Golden Wolves on the road their next time out on Monday after the original Sunday doubleheader was pushed back due to inclement weather. First pitch in Reading, Pa. scheduled for 1 p.m.
