ANNVILLE Pa. – Some stellar starting pitching from Kyle Kingsbury and Tanner Rock helped lift the Lebanon Valley Baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over Messiah in MAC Commonwealth action on Saturday afternoon. LVC improves to 8-4, 7-1 MACC with the two wins while Messiah falls to 2-8-1, 1-8-1 MACC.

In the opener, Kingsbury had it working on the mound as he held the Falcons scoreless through the first four frames while allowing just three hits. He would get some run support in the bottom of the first as LVC took a lead just two batters into the inning. After a Bryan Towers lead-off walk, Chris DeClerico would smash a homer to left field to give LVC a quick 2-0 advantage.

The Dutchmen offense would go cold after that as they failed to score for the remainder of the contest. Messiah cut the LVC lead in half in the top of the fifth by manufacturing a run without recording a hit in the inning. Trent Culver led off with a walk and then stole second and advanced to third on a LVC error. He would later come in on a sac fly to make it 2-1 headed into the bottom of the fifth. The Dutchmen bullpen would keep the Messiah bats quiet and Hunter Tipton would close the door with a five-out save to give LVC the 2-1 win to start the afternoon.

Inside The Numbers
  • Kyle Kingsbury picked up his third win of the season with five strong innings allowing just three hits, one unearned run, and striking out five.
  • Hunter Tipton recorded his first save of the season.
  • Chris DeClerico was the only player in the game on either side to finish with multiple hits, including his two-run homer, his first of the season.
  • LVC outhit Messiah 5-3 in the pitching duel.

Game Two

LVC Lineup
1. Towers (RF) 2. DeClerico (3B) 3. Leri (1B) 4. Bulgia (CF) 5. Holdredge (DH) 6. Smith (2B) 7. O'Loughlin (SS) 8. Blair (C) 9. Giancatarino (LF), Rock (P)

Messiah Lineup

The Dutchmen offense would erupt in the second game of the day plating 14 runs and pounding out 16 hits off Messiah pitching. LVC would get the scoring going in the second inning as they put up a five-spot on the Falcons.
The first five Dutchmen hitters would reach base with RBI-hits coming on an Ethan O'Loughlin single, and Luke Blair single, and a two-run Chris DeClerico double.

LVC would add two runs in the bottom of the fourth, again via two-run double off the bat of DeClerico, and then another run in the fifth on an O'Loughlin sacrifice fly to give LVC a huge 8-0 lead. That was more than enough for Tanner Rock today as he tossed six immaculate innings of one-hit ball, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning.

With the Dutchmen already leading 8-0, Mike Bulgia would continue to pile it on with a three-run blast over the right-center wall to bring home DeClerico and Bryan Towers to balloon the Dutchmen lead to 11-0. Messiah would make things a little interesting as they plated five runs in the top of the seventh to pull within six, but LVC would respond with three runs in the bottom of the eighth to cruise to a dominant 14-5 win over the Falcons, completing the sweep.

Inside The Numbers
  • Tanner Rock picked up his second win of the year in style tossing six shutout frames of one-hit ball while striking out seven Falcon hitters.
  • Chris DeClerico and Mike Bulgia each finished with four hits and four RBI to lead the Dutchmen offense.
  • Five different LVC hitters had multi-hit performances.
  • LVC outhit the Falcons 16-5 for the contest.
  • The 16 hits tied a season-high for LVC, with the other coming back in a win over Albright on March 14.
