M. Hockey Drops Physical Bout With Stevenson

How It Happened

HERSHEY, Pa. – In a game that saw nine goals and 16 combined penalties, it was Stevenson who ran away from the LVC men's hockey team 7-2 on Sunday evening. LVC falls to 2-3-2, 2-3-2 UCHC with the loss while Stevenson now sits at 7-2-1, 4-1-1 UCHC.

It didn't take long for the game to see some scoring as the teams combined for four goals in the opening period. Stevenson got on the board first on a Matt Dougherty strike to grab an early lead at 3:37. Just under four minutes later, Jered Stevenson finished off a pass in front via Justin Hall to tie the game up 1-1. Stevenson would score a pair of goals in the final 4:24 of the period, including a powerplay goal with 13 seconds left in the frame to lead 3-1 into the first intermission.

Penalties would be the theme of the second period as the teams combined to commit eight infractions, three for the Dutchmen and five for Stevenson. However, it was Stevenson's special teams units who came up large as they held LVC scoreless on their man-up opportunities will the Mustangs capitalized for a pair of powerplay goals, both coming in the final two and half minutes to extend their lead to 5-1 with 20 minutes remaining.

Stevenson would put the proverbial nail in the coffin in the third scoring a pair of powerplay goals late in the third, the two goals coming just 32 seconds apart to push the lead out to six. Justin Hall would add a late tally in the final minutes but LVC would fall 7-2.

  • The two teams combined for 16 penalties and 35 PIM in the physical contest.
  • Stevenson excelled on the powerplay, scoring five goals on the man-up advantage. LVC scored just one goal on the powerplay.

The Dutchmen are back on the ice Wednesday when they host Utica College in UCHC action. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Hersheypark Arena.
