The two would come around to score on a Julia Craig single to center. Later in the inning, LVC would load the bases and plate three more runs on back-to-back doubles from Hannah Bashore and Kylie Balthaser.

The Eagles would claw their way back into the game in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs on six consecutive singles as Eastern would go station to station to pull themselves within just a run. The Dutchmen would respond with two runs in the top of the fourth to push their lead back up to three. Burns would reach on a single and score on a McCurdy triple to right field. Burns would later score on a Forsythe single through the left side.
