ANNVILLE Pa. – The Lebanon Valley softball team made their long-awaited return to the field today and picked up a 9-1 win in six innings over Eastern in the 2021 season opener.

The Dutchmen would get on the board first with a five-run second inning that saw LVC bat around the lineup and pick up five hits. Jessica Truitt led off the frame with a double to center. After Lindsey McCurdy reached first on a fielder's choice, she would steal second, followed by a Lia D'Angelo walk to load the bases with no outs for the Dutchmen. Kylie Balthaser would come up big with a two-run double to right field to kick off the scoring. A Sam Burns infield single and Julia Craig two-run single would cap the five-run frame for LVC.

Sarah Musselman had it all working in the circle as she held the Eagle offense at bay all afternoon long. Through the first four innings, Musselman allowed just four hits with only one reaching the outfield grass. With LVC leading 5-0, the Dutchmen would add a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to a Julia Forsythe RBI-groundout and an Anna Marie Hockman single and LVC ballooned their lead to 7-0.

The Eagles would plate their lone run in the fifth inning. Emily Loomis doubled to left-center and would score on a Grace Gonzalez single the next batter. LVC would respond in the bottom half of the inning as Craig doubled off the wall in right field to plate Alyssa Hamilton to give the Dutchmen an 8-1 advantage. Hannah Bashore would score off an error by the Eagles defense in the bottom of the sixth to give LVC the 9-1 victory.
