Alvernia 2, Lebanon Valley 1
How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – Lebanon Valley dropped a 2-1 contest to Alvernia on Saturday night, making all four of LVC's losses this season coming by just one goal. The Dutchmen have their record fall to 0-3-1 while Alvernia sits at 2-0.
Late in the first period, the Dutchmen committed a penalty giving Alvernia their first powerplay opportunity of the contest. The Golden Wolves would capitalize on the advantage when Shae Hudec was able to place a perfect shot in the top-left corner of the goal to give Alvernia the 1-0 lead. That 1-0 score would hold for the final few minutes of the first period and the entire second period.
In the third, the two teams traded penalties early in the period with neither team able to take advantage and the score remained 1-0 in favor of Alvernia. The Dutchmen powerplay would struggle to get much going as they went 0-for-3 with the extra attacker in the final frame.
With 3:42 left in regulation, Ioanna Christou would steal the puck in the neutral zone and beat the Dutchmen defense to score and double the deficit
for LVC. Just 1:11 later though,
Emma Dorf would poke a loose puck passed the Alvernia goaltender to bring the Dutchmen back within one with just
over two and a half minutes to play.
The Dutchmen would pull their goalie with 1:07 to go with a faceoff in the Alvernia zone. Alvernia ended up winning the faceoff and proceeded to take the puck up against the boards and burn clock, holding the puck up against the corner boards for almost an entire minute. LVC had one last chance with nine seconds left but couldn't make anything of it and would fall 2-1.
