How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Dutchmen picked up a 68-61 victory in a slugfest over Delaware Valley on Friday night. LVC remains undefeated at 3-0 while the Aggies continue to look for their first win as they fall to 0-3.
In a game that saw 40 fouls and 43 free throws, the Dutchmen hit just enough free throws down the stretch to hold off Delaware Valley. Picking up the action after halftime with LVC holding a 30-27 lead, the Dutchmen would begin the second with a quick 8-4 spurt ignited by a
Collin Jones breakaway dunk.
At the 11:36 mark of the half, LVC led 45-42 before
Zach Tucker would take over, scoring 12 consecutive Dutchmen points, stretching the lead out to six at 57-51 with 6:35 to play. Down the stretch, Delaware Valley would cut the lead to four but the Dutchmen would close the game out knocking down their final three free throw attempts while not allowing an Aggie point for the final 1:05 to take the 68-61 win.
The opening half was back-and-forth with Delaware Valley opening up the early lead at 13-6 after back-to-back triples from Matt Paulus and Dariel Medina. LVC would answer in a big way by putting together a huge 20-4 run to flip the script and lead 26-17 with a few minutes before intermission. Paulus and Medina would each knock down three-pointers in the final 1:02 of the half to bring the Aggies to within three at the intermission.
