GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Men's Soccer team has their championship run come to an end in heartbreaking fashion as the Dutchmen's halftime lead didn't stand and they fell 2-1 in overtime to Messiah in the MAC Commonwealth title match.

How It Happened
  • The Dutchmen would get on the board first and put the pressure on the Falcons when Peter Foerster rocketed a left-footed shot from 25 yards out and beat the Messiah goalkeeper in to the right corner of the goal to give LVC the early lead.
  • The Falcons would send a lot of shots at Sean Quirk but he would stop every single one in the first half to keep LVC ahead 1-0 at intermission. Messiah outshot the Dutchmen 12-2 in the first half but LVC took the one-goal lead into half.
  • In the 57th minute, Matt McDonald would make run down the left wing of the field and beat a few Dutchmen defenders before sliding the ball into the back of the net to tie the game up. Neither team would be able to grab the go-ahead goal in regulation with both offenses generating some dangerous chances in the final 33 minutes or regulation and the conference title match headed to extra time.
  • Just 3:57 into the first over time, Jake Lent-Koop would out jump the Dutchmen defense on a cross sent in from the right wing and Lent-Koop would head the ball into the back of the net to give Messiah the conference title and down the Dutchmen 2-1.
Inside The Numbers
  • Peter Foerster scored his fourth goal of the season in the first half.
  • Messiah outshot the Dutchmen 29-6 and 11-4 on target.
  • Sean Quirk made nine saves in between the pipes for LVC.
  • The Dutchmen were held without a corner kick chance while Messiah had 11 corner kick opportunities.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen have had their 2021 campaign come to a close and will return to the pitch next Fall.
