How It Happened
READING, Pa. – In Lebanon Valley's 100th all-time meeting against Albright, the Dutchmen cruised to a 25-2 victory behind
Tim Ervey's two scores and 271 rushing yards, which is a new single-game program record. The Flying Dutchmen closed out their 2021 campaign with a 5-5 overall mark, while the Lions finished their season at 2-8.
1st Quarter
- On a rainy day in Reading, LVC struck first near the midway point of the opening quarter when Ervey ran for a five-yard touchdown right after he rushed for 43 yards. On the point-after attempt, the ball sailed over the head of Jeremy Bours Jr., but he was able to recover tossed up a ball that was hauled in by Gabe Randall to make it an 8-0 game.
2nd Quarter
- At the 10:19 mark of the second, LVC was getting ready to punt the ball away, but again, rainy conditions played a factor, as the ball sailed over Jesse Martin's head and out the back of LVC's endzone, resulting in a safety for Albright. Despite the blunder, the Dutchmen were still ahead 8-2.
- After LVC forced a punt, the visiting Dutchmen put together an impressive drive, capped by Braden Bohannon's nine-yard rushing TD that increased their advantage to 15-2 with 1:34 left in the half, a score that stood heading into halftime.
3rd Quarter
- With 8:16 remaining in the third, LVC tacked on three more points thanks to Kevin Roberts' 22-yard field goal. From there, the Dutchmen's defense stifled Albright's offense and LVC went into the fourth quarter with a comfortable 18-2 lead.
4th Quarter
- Ervey continued to hurt the Lions on the ground, as he ran wild in the second half en route to the best rushing day LVC's football team has ever seen in regards to yards. With 6:19 remaining in the contest, Ervey broke off for a 45-yard touchdown to ice the game for the Dutchmen, putting LVC ahead 25-2.
Inside the Numbers
- Ervey's 271 yards on the grounds are the most in LVC single-game history, snapping Charlie Parker's mark of 267, which he achieved against Wilkes back on Oct. 4, 2008. Ervey, who carried the ball 36 times, added two touchdowns for the Dutchmen.
- Brad Shear led LVC's defense with eight tackles, including five solo and two for loss.
- Noah Caldani and Ryan Gibney had four tackles apiece.
- Brent Moody and Jacob Horton each recorded an interception. Horton returns his for 49 yards to set the Dutchmen up with terrific field position.
- LVC's defense held Albright QB Todd Shelly to just five completions out of 15 attempts for 52 yards. They also held RB Shockley to 69 yards on the ground.
- Albright's Vital paced the Lions' defense with 18 total tackles, including nine solo stops.
- LVC had 15 first downs compared to Albright's 10.
- The Dutchmen racked up 297 yards on the ground and averaged 6.1 yards per rush.
- The Lions were called just six penalties for 46 yards, while LVC was whistled for just two penalties totaling 10 yards.
LVC and Albright Meet for 100th Time
Today's game was the 100th all-time meeting between the Dutchmen and Lions. LVC now holds a 63-34-3 overall mark in a series that dates back to Nov. 2, 1898.
A Tradition Unlike Any Other
For the first time since 2018, the LVC student body is now set to march to Kreiderhome, home of President MacLaren, and request the day before Thanksgiving off from class. That day is scheduled to be a half-day of classes. This will be the first time the students march to Kreiderheim with President MacLaren at LVC. The march is set for tomorrow at 2 p.m.
Season Recap
Today's game marks the end of LVC's 123rd campaign in program history. There is still business to be done, however, as the LVC student body is set to march on Kreiderheim on Sunday at 2 p.m., hoping for a well-earned day off.
