How It Happened
CLERMONT, Fla. –
Emma Kelliher had it all working in the circle in game one as she picked up her first collegiate win in grand fashion by tossing a no-hitter in LVC's 9-0 win over John Jay. The no-hitter was the first in LVC softball history since Sam Derr accomplished the feat against Keene State on March 9, 2014 in the NCAA Tournament. LVC scored seven runs in the second and never looked back along with Kelliher's dominant pitching, the Dutchmen cruised to victory in the day's opening contest.
Kelliher was strong early and never let off the gas. She opened up the game's first two innings with four strikeouts while allowing just one baserunner. As for the offense, LVC erupted for seven runs in the second inning to blow the game wide open.
Anna Marie Hockman drove in the first two runs of the game when she singled to right to bring home
Julia Forsythe and
Rylee Shockley.
Kristi Langhans would score on the next batter on a
Robin Feaster fielder's choice to push the lead to 3-0.
Jen Kaufman would pick up an RBI-groundout, scoring Hockman, followed by an
Annie McClain single to bring home Feaster and LVC quickly jumped out to a 5-0 advantage. The Dutchmen weren't finished as they scored two more runs on a Bloodhound error and led 7-0 after two frames.
Kelliher continued to control the game from the circle picking up two more punch outs in the third followed by a 1-2-3 top of the fourth as LVC hung on to a comfortable seven-run cushion. In the bottom half of the fourth,
Sarah Musselman would lace a two-out double to right-center to plate
Kate Whelski giving the Dutchmen an 8-0 lead. Musselman would later score on a John Jay error and LVC led 9-0, needing just three more outs for a win via mercy rule.
In the fifth, Kelliher would retire the first two batters quickly with a pair of groundouts, needing just one more out for a no-hitter. After a few walks, Kelliher would complete the no-no with a groundout to third as LVC picked up the 9-0 win.
Inside the Numbers
- Emma Kelliher tossed a no-hitter with six strikeouts for her first career win. This was the first no-no in nearly six years for LVC softball.
- Six Dutchmen recorded a hit at the plate. Anna Marie Hockman picked up a pair of RBI while Robin Feater, Jen Kaufman, Anne McClain, and Sarah Musselman all added RBI in the win.
- Musselman and Kristi Langhans each hit doubles for LVC.
- Eight different players scored a run for the Dutchmen led by Kate Whelski who scored twice.
- LVC was a perfect 3-for-3 when stealing bases.

How It Happened
LVC completed the sweep in their final day in Florida with a 12-8 slugfest win over Johnson & Wales on Saturday afternoon. The tied their season-high with 12 runs while bashing a season-best 14 hits in the win. The Dutchmen will head back to Pennsylvania with a 5-5 record.
LVC got the scoring started in the first inning with
Jen Kaufman singling to left and coming around to score on an eventual sac fly by
Kate Whelski. The Wildcats responded right away in the bottom of the first with three runs as they took advantage of a Dutchmen error to take a 3-1 lead after one frame. In the second, a two-run double to center by
Anna Marie Hockman would bring the game back tied to 3-3 before the Wildcats picked up two more in the bottom of half of the inning to grab the lead back, 5-3.
After a rare scoreless inning in the third, LVC would put together a big fourth inning as they plated five runs on four hits and a pair of walks. The first run of the inning came in on a bases-loaded walk to Whelski to bring home Hockman. Kaufman would score on a
Julia Forsythe sac fly the next batter to tie the game 5-5. Next up was
Kylie Balthaser who ripped a two-run double to left-center, scoring Whelski and
Annie McClain to give LVC a two-run advantage. The Dutchmen added one final run in the inning when Balthaser scored on a
Kristi Langhans single and LVC led 8-5 headed into the bottom of the fourth. The Wildcats would collect fours hit and score a pair of runs in their half of the inning to pull within one.
The Dutchmen would score pair of unearned runs in the fifth, taking advantage of a Wildcat error to push their lead back out to three runs. In the sixth, Rylie Shockley would record a pinch-hit sac fly to center to score Balthaser and LVC would lead 11-7 as the game went to the final inning. Each team would score a run in the seventh and the Wildcats were threatening with two runners in scoring position and just one out but Kaufman made a diving grab down the left-field line and would double-up the Wildcat runner at third base to secure the win for the Dutchmen by a 12-8 score.

- LVC tied a season-high with 12 runs while setting a new high mark with 14 hits.
- Eight different players recorded at least one hit, five had multiple hits, led by Anna Marie Hockman who had three hits while also driving in two runs.
- Kate Whelski drove in a team-high three runs with Julia Forsythe and Kylie Balthaser each picking up two RBI.
- Jen Kaufman scored a team-high three runs. Balthaser and Annie McClain each rounded the bases twice as well.
- Emma Kelliher tossed 3.1 innings in relief, allowing just one unearned run, to pick up the win.
- Sarah Musselman picked up her first save on the season.
- Johnson & Wales' Kristin Frost was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate for the Wildcats.
- Each team committed three errors in the field.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen have completed their Florida trip and will head back home and be back out on the field on Thursday, Mar. 12, when they host York College (Pa.) for non-conference twin bill. Game time for game one is set for 3 p.m. at LVC Softball Park.
