How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Dutchmen dropped a defensive battle by a 2-1 score in the opening game of the non-conference doubleheader with the York College Spartans. Despite being just 51 miles apart, this was the first meeting between the two teams since May 2007.
After a pair of scoreless innings to start the game, the Spartans would get on the board in the top of the third when Hannah Vogt doubled to right-center to bring home Natalie Decena and grab a 1-0 lead. York would add another run in the next frame on a single to center by Elle Meyer as the Spartans doubled their lead to 2-0 after four innings.
LVC's offense had a tough time breaking through against York's Ginger Lewis as the Dutchmen were held without a hit until the fourth inning.
Jen Kaufman would get that first hit by doubling to left to lead off the frame but would be stranded at second as LVC remained scoreless. The Dutchmen would get on the board in the sixth when
Sarah Musselman, who led off the inning with a single, would score from first on a
Kate Whelski double to cut the deficit in half. The Dutchmen were unable to get the tying run in the seventh and fell 2-1 in game one.

How It Happened
The Dutchmen came back from an early deficit before picking up a 4-3 extra-inning victory in the nightcap against York. After York tied the game in the seventh inning, LVC would pick up the one-run win in the eighth to split the doubleheader. LVC sits at 6-6 while York is now 9-3 on the season.
It was York who got on the board first when Emily Netterville homered to left field to plate the first two runs of the ball game in the second innings. The Dutchmen would respond in the bottom of the third with two runs of their own on a two-RBI double by
Rylee Shockley. Taking advantage of a Spartan error,
Kate Whelski and
Annie McClain would come around to score on the Shockley double to tie the game up after three innings.
Later in the sixth inning,
Robin Feaster came up clutch with a two-run double to left-center that would score
Alison Noga with two outs. Feaster would be out trying to stretch out to a triple but her hit would put LVC ahead by one, needing just three outs to pick the win. York would not go down without a fight and would load the bases in the seventh with just one out. Daphney Adams would deliver with a single to left to bring home the tying run, but
Sarah Musselman would minimize the damage in the circle as she retired the next two Spartans and would send LVC to the plate with a chance to win in the seventh as the score was tied 3-3.
In the eighth, York had the winning run at third with one out but Musselman again was clutch in the circle as she got the next to Spartan hitters to fail to bring home the go-ahead run and LVC headed to the bottom half of the frame with a chance to walk it off. Noga would do just that as she hit a fly ball to right field that would bring home
Kaitlyn Peake as the Dutchmen picked up the 4-3 win in eight innings.
