How It Happened
CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lebanon Valley offense wasted little time to jump all over Northland as they piled up 12 runs in a 12-3 drubbing of the Jills in the first game of the day for the Dutchmen. LVC used an eight-run second inning to put away Northland before cruising to the victory.
Despite the final score, it was Northland who started the scoring as they knocked around a pair of hits including an RBI-single by Saylor Donnelly to put the Jills up 1-0 early. LVC would respond in the bottom half of the first by putting up a two-spot to take their first lead of the contest.
Jen Kaufman led off the inning with a single followed by a steal of second base to set the table for
Annie McClain. McClain would rip a double to left field to bring home Kaufman to tie the game up 1-1. McClain would later score on a
Julia Forsythe RBI-groundout as LVC took a 2-1 lead after one inning.
In the second frame, the Dutchmen offense would erupt for eight runs on seven hits while also taking advantage of a pair of Northland errors. The Dutchmen sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning en route to scoring eight runs. McClain,

Kaitlyn Peake all picked up RBIs in the inning to give the Dutchmen a comfortable 10-1 lead.
LVC would continue to smack the ball all over the field and picked up two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, both coming on a Langhans single, to balloon the lead out to 11 with LVC needing three outs to secure a win in five.
Sarah Musselman would close the door on Northland in the fifth as the Dutchmen picked up a 12-3 win in their opening game of the afternoon.
Inside the Numbers
- Eight different players recorded a hit for LVC with four of them, Kaufman, A. McClain, Forsythe, and Langhans, all finishing with two hits in the game.
- Sarah Musselman tossed five strong innings to pick up the W in the circle. She struck out seven batters, tying a career-high.
- Kristi Langhans led a potent Dutchmen offense with a pair of hits, a double, three RBI, and two runs scored.
- Annie and Victoria McClain, Julia Forsythe, and Kaitlyn Peake all drove in two runs at the plate.
- LVC's 12 hits were the most in a game on the young season.

How It Happened
A three-run fifth inning by St. Mary's (Minn.) was pivotal in rallying to top the Dutchmen by a 4-1 score in the second of two games on the day for LVC. The Dutchmen sit at 3-3 with three straight splits in Florida while the Cardinals improve to 4-2.
The first two innings saw no scoring before LVC would get on the board in the top half of the third.
Robin Feaster would lead off the inning with a single through the left side of the infield. Later in the inning, with Feaster at third base,
Kate Whelski would single up the middle to plate Feaster and give LVC a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals would get their offense going in the bottom of the fifth as they scored three runs on three hits to take their first lead of the game. Erin Sullivan would reach on an infield single that brought home Haley Williams who scored all the way from second base on the play to the game up 1-1. St. Mary's was still threatening as they had two runners in scoring position following a wild pitch to set the table for Amber Chow. Chow would lace a ball to the left-field wall to plate both runners and give the Cardinals the 3-1 advantage.
St. Mary's would tack on an insurance run in the sixth on a Justine Schultz double down the left-field line on the tenth pitch of the at-bat as LVC now found themselves down three with one inning left to play. LVC would manage to get one runner on in the seventh but that would be it for the Dutchmen as they dropped the second game of the day, 4-1.
Inside the Numbers
- Kyle Balthaser continued to swing a hot bat for the Dutchmen as she went 2-for-2 with a double. She is hitting .700 in the early going for LVC.
- Kate Whelski also recorded a pair of hits and drove in the lone run for LVC.
- St. Mary's outhit LVC narrowly 8-7, while making zero errors compared to one for the Dutchmen.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen are off tomorrow before returning to the field for a pair of games on Friday. LVC will take on Moravian to start off the day at 10 a.m. before taking on John Carroll University at 12:30 p.m. at the Hancock Recreational Complex.
