How It Happened
CLERMONT, Fla. – A two-run double in the top of the sixth inning off the bat of Rylee Shockley lifted the Lebanon Valley softball team to a 5-3 victory over Houghton College in the first game of the day on Monday afternoon. LVC improved to 2-1 with the win while Houghton dropped to 0-1.

LVC wasted little time getting the offense going as Jen Kaufman reached on an infield single and would then proceed to steal second and third base, setting up Kate Whelski who would single to left and bring home Kaufman for the game's first run. After a scoreless second inning, Kaufman again got things started for the Dutchmen with another infield single. Victoria McClain would then single followed by a Whelski free pass to load the based with nobody out. The Dutchmen would take advantage of a Highlander error followed by a Sarah Musselman RBI-single and LVC would push their lead out to 3-0 after three innings.

Houghton would fight back in the bottom half of the fifth with three runs of their own to tie the game. Grace Thompson ripped a two-run double to left-center to get the Highlanders within one before an RBI-groundout later in the frame would bring the contest to a 3-3 deadlock.

The Dutchmen answered in the sixth with a pair of runs to retake the lead. Kristi Langhans led off the frame with a single to left followed by a walk to McClain to set the table for Rylee Shockley. Shockley would knock a ball to the left-field wall to plate both runners and put the Dutchmen back ahead at 5-3.

Houghton would make it interesting in the seventh bringing the winning run to the plate, but McClain would close the door on any hopes of a Highlander comeback to give LVC the 5-3 victory.

How It Happened
The Dutchmen bats went cold and ran into a powerful MSOE offense as they fell 8-0 in the nightcap to split their two games for the day. LVC sits at 2-2 after two days of action while MSOE is now 2-0 on the year.

The Raiders got on the board early scoring three runs on six hits in the first two innings to grab a quick 3-0 lead. The Dutchmen offense struggled to get anything to fall off of MSOE's Emily Wiederholt, as she held LVC to just one hit through the first four innings.

The Raiders would add a run in the fourth, followed by a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to put the Dutchmen down eight headed into the final frame. LVC would be unable to break through for any runs as they dropped an 8-0 contest to MSOE.
