How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – Wilkes University netted three first-period goals and defeated Lebanon Valley by a 5-1 score on Friday night in UCHC and MAC Men's Ice Hockey action. The Dutchmen fell to 4-12-1, 2-7-1 UCHC, 0-4 MAC, while the Colonels improved to 13-4, 9-1 UCHC, 4-0 MAC.
LVC was put into an early hole when by a team that's receiving votes in the latest DIII USCHO poll when Wilkes' Dylan Kuipers found the back of the net 1:31 into the opening period to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Then, with 11 minutes to go in the opening period, Tyler Barrow put the Colonels on top 2-0 with a score from Ryan Galvin. Just 2:47 later, Wilkes made it a 3-0 score when Devon Schell scored a goal from Charlie Spetz and Barrow. The Dutchmen found themselves down 3-0 after one period of action.
Just past the midway point of the middle stanza, Flynn put the visitors on top 4-0, and just over three minutes later, Joey Pasquini scored an unassisted tally to make it 5-0. In the final minute of action of the second, however,
Matt Kassab got LVC on the board with a goal from
Mark Kishko and
Kyle Scott with 44 seconds remaining, bringing LVC to within four at 5-1 heading into the third period.
In the final period, the Dutchmen held Wilkes off the scoreboard, but were unable to generate any more goals, resulting in the 5-1 defeat.
