How It Happened
OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Lebanon Valley had five scorers hit double-figures in points and hung on late to defeat Stevenson University 77-66 on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth Men's Basketball action. The Flying Dutchmen jumped to 7-9, 2-5 MACC, while the Mustangs dropped to 5-11, 2-5 MACC.

With 3:55 to go in the opening period, Stevenson's Jaylin Johnson knocked down a trey to increase the Mustangs' advantage to 28-23. For the remainder of the opening half, it was all Dutchmen, beginning with Collin Jones' 3-pointer at 3:32, followed by Zach Tucker's triple at 3:06 that gave LVC a 29-28 lead. Then, Jeremy Deihm made a layup, followed by back-to-back free-throw makes by Tucker to make it 33-28 with 1:34 left. Mason Green kept the momentum going by hitting a trey and Deihm finished off LVC's impressive run with two free throws, as the Dutchmen ended the opening half on a 15-0 run and took an all-important 38-28 lead heading into second-half action.

The Dutchmen picked up where they left off in the second half and increased their lead to 21 when AJ Catanzaro made a fast-break jumper to give the visitors a 51-30 advantage with 16:12 to go in the game. Slowly, the Mustangs began to creep back into the game and cut LVC's lead to 12 at 53-41 after Cam Harris hit a trey with 13:44 left. The Dutchmen quickly stopped the bleeding after Luis Garcia hit two consecutive shots from the charity stripe, followed by Jones' layup and a made free throw at 12:52 that made it 58-41. From there, Stevenson hung around and eventually cut LVC's advantage to eight at 67-59 with 4:10 to go thanks to a 17-9 spurt, but Jones' layup on the Dutchmen's ensuing possession put it back to a double-digit lead at 69-59 at the 3:44 mark. In the final minutes, the Mustangs came back to within eight, but the Dutchmen hit clutch free throws down the stretch and held on for the 77-66 victory.

Early in the game, LVC jumped out to a 9-3 lead after Trevor Covey connected on a triple with 16:31 left. The Mustangs answered with a 12-0 spurt, however, and took a 15-9 lead with 10:54 left in the opening half. The Dutchmen weren't rattled and tied the game at 17-17 after Tucker's 3-pointer with 8:12 to go. From there, the game remained close until the Dutchmen's significant run at the end of the first half.
