Series History
Alvernia University is in just its second season of football, so Saturday's matchup will be the second meeting all time between the Flying Dutchmen and the Golden Wolves. In the teams' first ever meeting a season ago, LVC thrashed Alvernia 55-7 in Reading.

Last Time Out
Lebanon Valley's furious fourth-quarter comeback fell just short in a narrow 30-24 loss at Wilkes on Sept. 14. With 10:29 remaining in the fourth quarter, Wilkes' JaQuan Sheals went for a five-yard touchdown to cap a 10-play, 74-yard drive for the home team that seemingly put the Colonels up for good at 30-10. The Dutchmen had other ideas, however, and never quit until the clock struck zero. Each team had a drive stall out after Wilkes went ahead by 20, but LVC got good field position at Wilkes' 43-yard line with 7:44 left after a punt. Quarterback Kody Kegarise and the Dutchmen offense had no choice but to throw the ball more with the clock ticking in the final period. He began the drive with a pass to Tyeair Diggs for 18 yards, followed by another to Patrick Clark for nine yards, setting the offense up nicely at Wilkes' 16-yard line. After a Kegarise nine-yard rush made it first and goal, Kegarise then chucked the ball to Diggs in the endzone for the touchdown. After Nick Bentz's point-after attempt, it was a game again and the visiting Dutchmen were down by just 13 at 30-17 with 6:20 to go in the contest. LVC desperately needed a defensive stand on Wilkes' ensuing offensive possession, and got just that. CJ LaPorta stopped Jeremiah Acker's rush for just one yard, followed by quarterback Jose Tabora's rush for a loss of three yards thanks to Tom Miller and Dillon Estes. On 3rd and 12, Tabora completed a pass to wide receiver Nick Yanik, but Brendan Yetter was right on him quickly to make the stop and the Colonels punted the ball back to LVC. Cameron Niemeyer returned it eight yards to LVC's 26-yard line with 5:44 left. Kegarise and the rest of the offense picked up where they left off on their last drive and Kegarise completed back-to-back passes to Dylan Baxter (eight yards, 17 yards), and followed it up with a huge connection with Niemeyer for 48 yards. Later in the drive, on first-and-goal, Kegarise again found Niemeyer for the six-yard TD. Amazingly, with just 4:29 to go, the Dutchmen were down by just one score at 30-24. Despite LVC using all three of their timeouts in the previous defensive stand, Wilkes knew it needed to throw the ball a few times in order to run out the clock. Tabora began the drive with consecutive short completions, followed by Acker's four-yard rush to LVC's 34-yard line. The clock, which became the Dutchmen's enemy, continued to run and LVC's could do nothing to stop it. The defense for the Dutchmen stood tall and forced a 4th down and 5 on LVC's 33 for the Colonels. Tabora was able to complete a pass to wide receiver Nick Yanik for 11 yards to put the game on ice. In the early going, Tabora showed his offensive skills with a 39-yard TD pass to Derek Nelson at the 11:31 mark of the opening quarter. Wilkes missed the extra point, but still went up early at 6-0. LVC answered and came to within three after Bentz nailed a 41-yard field goal with 13:21 left in the second quarter, but 10 minutes later, the Colonels went ahead 13-3 after Tabora's TD pass to Bryce Harrison. After an LVC punt, the home team took advantage of solid field position and capped it with Acker's three-yard TD run with just 39 seconds left in the first half that put Wilkes ahead 20-3. The Dutchmen had 39 seconds to work with to try to put points on the board before halftime. After a home team unsportsmanlike conduct foul, Kegarise found Baxter for a 23-yard gain, followed by a 20-yard strike to Niemeyer that put the ball at the Colonel's 17. After a Dutchmen timeout with 12 ticks left in the half, Kegarise hit Diggs for a 17-yard score to cap the four-play, 75-yard drive that brought LVC to within 10 at 20-10 right before the break.

Last Year vs. Alvernia
Lebanon Valley rushed for seven touchdowns en route to its first win of the 2018 season after dominating Alvernia 55-7 on Nov. 3, 2018. With 10:50 remaining in the first quarter, LVC got a defensive spark it needed when Tyler Gerhart recovered an Alvernia fumble and returned it 40 yards for the touchdown. The youngster also returned a fumble for a score last week at FDU-Florham. Then, after a Golden Wolves three-and-out, Hunter Wilson took over, rushing for nine yards, 18 yards, and 28 yards on consecutive plays to move LVC into Alvernia's territory. Several plays later, Wilson capped the Dutchmen's impressive drive with a three-yard touchdown to put LVC ahead 14-0 with five minutes left in the first. On Alvernia's ensuing drive, the Dutchmen forced another three-and-out, capped by Anthony Jenkins' sack. The Dutchmen took advantage of solid field position and on their first play of the drive, Ryan Fink rushed for 16 yards to the Golden Wolves' 17-yard line. After a clipping penalty put LVC on Alvernia's eight-yard line, Fink rushed it home for another TD that put the Dutchmen on top 21-0 with two minutes left in the first, and that score line held up going into the second quarter. In the second quarter, LVC defense continued to dominate, as did the offense, particularly the running game. With 7:05 remaining in the second, the Dutchmen began a drive at Alvernia's 47-yard line and rushed the rock six consecutive times, capped by Fink's 12-yard touchdown to take a 27-0 advantage. In the final minutes of the first, Steve Salerno added a one-yard rushing TD and LVC took a commanding 34-0 lead heading into halftime. Similar to the beginning of the game, LVC's defense forced a turnover at the beginning of the third quarter when Brandon Brubaker forced a fumble and Zachary Adams recovered it at Alvernia's 30-yard line to set up the Dutchmen offense with good field position. As was the theme today, LVC ran the ball with ease and Salerno hit pay dirt for the second time after his 12-yard run to put the Dutchmen up 41-0. Later in the third, on 2nd and 13 for LVC, Tyeair Diggs rushed for 18 yards into Alvernia territory. Several plays later, on third and goal, Wilson rushed it home to put the Dutchmen up 48-7. Then, LVC scored its final touchdown on its first drive of the fourth quarter when Keegan Corwell rushed for seven yards for the TD, as the Dutchmen went on to win the game 55-7. As a team, LVC finished with 332 rushing yards on 51 attempts, both season-highs. The Dutchmen totaled seven rushing TD's on 6.5 yards per rush.

Coach To Cure MD Game
The Dutchmen coaching staff will participate in LVC's 10th-annual Coach to Cure MD game on Saturday, an effort by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) to raise funds for research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Other AFCA members around the country will wear a Coach to Cure MD logo patch on the sidelines and LVC's coaches will do the same for Saturday's contest. Fans will also have the opportunity to donate to research projects supported by Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy. Fans can donate to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research by either going online or by texting the word "CURE" to 50555 to make a one-time, $10 donation to our cause. When prompted, please confirm your gift.

Honorary Captain
During Saturday's pregame activities and opening coin toss, 13-year old Levi Hains will join LVC team captains Patrick Clark, Tyler Lutz, and C.J. Steinhilber to serve as honorary captain on Coach to Cure MD Day. Hains, a seventh-grader in South Lebanon, will serve as captain for the 10th consecutive season.

Previewing with Coach Buehler
Head coach Joe Buehler '89 sat down for his weekly interview that touched a number of topics, including bright spots from the team's last game at Wilkes, a preview of Saturday's game with an improved Alvernia squad, and a message about Coach to Cure MD Day.

LVC's Offense
Lebanon Valley's offense came on strong in the second half against Wilkes, but time ran out on their comeback bid. Through two games in 2019, QB Kody Kegarise has already thrown for four touchdowns and 387 yards. Leading rusher Hunter Wilson was held in check by Wilkes a week ago, but he's still rushed for 203 yards and one TD, good for a season average of 101.50 yards. Tyeair Diggs ranks as LVC's lead receiver and has caught a total of 10 balls for 125 yards. The senior has also found paydirt twice.

LVC's Defense
Dillon Estes continues to be a force as an inside linebacker for the Dutchmen, as he's racked up 21 total tackles in two games and has forced a fumble. Fellow inside linebacker Tyler Lutz is right on Estes' tail with 20 tackles, while safety Anthony Jenkins has 18 tackles, one pick, and two broken up passes. Safety Brendan Yetter leads his squad with 12 solo tackles (14 total) to go along with a pair of broken up passes.

LVC's Special Teams
Senior Nick Bentz redeemed himself on Saturday by nailing a 41-yard field goal. LVC's return game continues to make improvements, as Tyeair Diggs has two returns for an average of 26 yards.

Scouting Alvernia
The Golden Wolves come into Saturday's game with a 1-1 record, earning a 20-14 win over Gallaudet University in their opener before narrowly falling to the University of New England 35-28 on Sept. 14. K. Washington Jr. and Darrius Sample have split the QB duties in Alvernia's first two games and each have thrown for a touchdown. RB Malcolm Carey has 276 yards on the ground in two games and already has five scores, while Neeko Scurlock has caught 10 balls for 127 yards and a touchdown to lead the receiving core.

Who's Next?
LVC travels to Dallas, Pa. to take on Misericordia University on Sept. 28. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
