GRANTHAM, Pa. – No. 5 Lebanon Valley dropped a narrow 3-2 game to No. 4 Widener in the opening game of the 2019 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Championship Tournament.
The Pride hopped out to a quick 1-0 lead after Silva doubled home Benozich, but that didn't phase
Lexi Windsor, as she escaped trouble and held Widener to just one run in the inning. Then, in the top of the third,

Jen Kaufman. In the top of the fourth,
Sarah Musselman then gave LVC a one-run advantage after her single scored
Kristi Langhans.
Windsor continued to deal inside the circle until Widener evened the game in the top of the fifth off Lovell's RBI-groundout. The Pride then took a narrow lead in the bottom of the sixth after DiMario reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Benozich to score.
Musselman led off the top of the seventh with a bunt single, followed by
Robin Feaster's sacrifice bunt that moved Musselman into scoring position. Later, Musselman advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Annie McClain then flew out to right field and Musselman tried to score from third, but Lovell made a perfect throw home and Musselman was called out, ending the game.

How It Happened
In a win-or-go-home contest against Alvernia, LVC came through in a big way and blanked the Golden Wolves 2-0 to advance to day two of the MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament. The Dutchmen now sit at 19-21 overall, while Alvernia's season ended at 24-17-1.
In the top of the second, Whelski began the inning with a single to shortstop, and later in the inning, Musselman singled to center, sending Whelski to third.
Robin Feaster was up next and she flew out to left field, allowing Whelski to tag up and score for the game's first run.
Feaster was at it again in the top of the fourth when she ripped a double to left field, allowing Whelski to score and increase the Dutchmen's advantage to 2-0. That was more than enough offense for Windsor and Musselman, as they combined to shut down Alvernia's potent offense and help LVC avenge a pair of regular-season losses to the Golden Wolves.
