Softball Splits with Knights to Clinch Playoff Berth

How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley narrowly defeated the MAC Commonwealth's top team in Arcadia by a score of 4-3 in game one of this afternoon's doubleheader. Thanks to today's split, the Flying Dutchmen have clinched a spot in next weekend's MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament.
 
Before the game, seniors Lexi Windsor and Savannah Toth were honored on Senior Day.
 
Arcadia got on the board first when Jackie Bilotti singled home Kristin Cancelliere in the top of the first, but the Flying Dutchmen got that run back in the bottom of the frame when Toth reached on a fielder's choice that score Annie McClain.
 
In the bottom of the second, Windsor's sacrifice fly to right score Kristi Langhans, and then, in the bottom of the third, Toth launched a ball over the fence to increase the home squad's advantage to 3-2.
 
The fifth inning was packed with action, as Arcadia scored a pair of runs to even the game at 3-3. In the bottom of the inning, though, Langhans reached on a fielder's choice and then advanced on a throwing error which allowed Whelski to score and put the Dutchmen back up by one at 4-3. In the top of the sixth, Windsor allowed a two-out single, but got Bilotti to pop up to keep LVC ahead by one. Then, in the top of the seventh, Hunter Schantz led off the inning with a single, but Windsor worked around it and didn't held the Knights off to earn the win.
 
Inside the Numbers
- Windsor picked up her 11th win of the season and scattered 10 hits and allowed just one earned run while striking out four.
- McClain and Toth finished with two hits apiece while Toth had a team-high two RBI.
- McClain Toth, Kate Whelski, and Langhans each scored a run.

How It Happened
In game two of today's doubleheader, LVC was stymied by Arcadia's Kylee Schwind, who tossed a one-hit shutout in the Knights' 6-0 victory.
 
In the top of the first, Hunter Schantz doubled home DeStefano and Cancelliere to make it a 2-0 contest, then, in the top of the third, Vardiman singled through the right side for two RBI. The Knights went on to add a run in the fourth and another in the seventh, as Arcadia went on to win 6-0.
 
Inside the Numbers
- Whelski recorded LVC's lone hit in game two.
 - Sarah Musselman tossed 3.1 innings in relief and allowed no earned runs and struck out five.
- Schwind went seven innings and struck out a pair and walked two.
 
Playoffs!
The Dutchmen have clinched the fifth and final playoff spot in the 2019 MAC Commonwealth Championship, which will be played at Messiah College. LVC will take on Widener on Friday, May 3rd at 10 a.m. in the double-elimination tournament.
