How It Happened
READING, Pa. – Lebanon Valley outscored Albright 12-4 in an impressive second half and went on to defeat the Lions 17-12 in a key MAC Commonwealth women's lacrosse matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Flying Dutchmen jumped to 7-6, 4-1 MAC Commonwealth, while Albright fell to 11-3, 5-1 MAC Commonwealth.
LVC jumped out to a quick 3-0 advantage thanks to a pair of tallies from
Bailey Dills and one from Jaclyn little. The home team, however, responded with four straight goals to take a 4-3 lead with 16:07 remaining in the first half. Less than a minute later,
Veronica Venezia tied things up with a goal from
Brittany Hathaway, but the Lions went on another four-goal spurt to take an 8-4 advantage. Then, with 6:02 to go in the first, Dills netted her third of the game to bring LVC to within four at 8-4 heading into the second half.
The Dutchmen played perhaps their best 30 minutes of the entire season in today's second half. After the two teams traded goals early in the first, it was all LVC from there, as the Dutchmen went on a 5-0 run to take a two-goal lead at 11-9. After the Lions came to within one with a goal at 11-10 with 15:06 to go,
Makenzie Kelley and Venezia netted back-to-back goals to push the visitor's lead to three at 13-10. The Lions then came to within two with 11 minutes left, but Kelley and
Emily Federowicz scored, followed by two more from Venezia to make it a commanding 17-11 lead. Albright netted one with 30 seconds left, but it wasn't nearly enough, as a dominant second half guided LVC to a 17-12 conference win.
