Softball Earns a Pair of Florida Wins

How It Happened
CLERMONT, Fla. – In Lebanon Valley's opening day of a twinbill this afternoon in the Flying Dutchmen's spring break trip, LVC defeated Dominican (Ill.) thanks to Robin Feaster's walk-off single in extra innings.
 
Heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Dutchmen found themselves down by a run. Kristi Langhans began the inning with a single, and then advanced to second via an error by the center fielder. Ashley Dotey then sac-bunted Jen Kaufman, a pinch runner, over to send the tying run to third. Next, Annie McClain singled to right to tie the game at 3-3 and send it into extra innings.
 
In the top of the eighth, international softball rules dictated that a runner be placed on second, but Maddie Abbot forced a groundout, a fielder's choice, and a line out to keep the game knotted at 3-3. In the bottom of the eighth, Savannah Toth was placed on second and Feaster singled home Toth for the walk-off single.
 
Dominican got on the board early with an RBI-groundout in the top of the first, but LVC answered in the bottom of the frame with Toth's sac-fly. The contest remained tied until the top of the fourth when Orozco reached on an error that plated two runs. Then, in the bottom of the sixth, the Dutchmen came to within a run with Feasters RBI-groundout.
 
Inside the Numbers
 - McClain went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a walk.
 - Feaster added a pair of RBI for LVC.
 - Abbot got the win after throwing three innings in relief. She didn't allow any runs and gave up just two hits.
 - Sarah Musselman pitched well as the starter and went five innings, allowing just an earned run while striking out two.

How It Happened
In game two of this afternoon's doubleheader, Lexi Windsor pitched the Dutchmen to a 5-2 victory over Wittenberg to help LVC earn a sweep. The Dutchmen improved to 3-5 on the young season.
 
The Tigers picked up a run in the top of the first thanks to an RBI-groundout, but Windsor settled down from there. LVC broke through in the bottom of the fourth and plated three runs, beginning with Kristi Langhan's RBI-single via a bunt. LVC proceeded to draw two consecutive bases-loaded walks to take a 3-1 advantage. Then, Wittenberg got one back in the top of the fifth with B. Gibson's RBI-single down the left field line, but Langhans struck again in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI-single to center field, followed by Kyra Stanilious' RBI-grounded that made it 5-2.
 
In the top of the seventh, the Tigers threatened and loaded the bases with one out to bring the go-ahead run to the plate. Abbot relieved Windsor inside the circle, and Abbot induced a pop-up to first and got A. Curnutte to strike out swinging to allow the Dutchmen to hold on for the win and earn the sweep.
 
Inside the Numbers
 - Toth went 3-for-3 at the plate and scored a run.
 - Langhans went 2-for-2 with a game-high two RBI.
 - Windsor went 6.1 innings inside the circle and allowed two earned runs and struck out two.
 - Abbot earned the save after picking up a victory against Dominican.
 
Who's Next?
LVC concludes its 2019 spring break trip tomorrow. The Dutchmen take on Finlandia at 9:15 a.m. before battling Wartburg at 11:30 a.m.
