How It Happened
FORT PIERCE, Fla.Mitch Rickabaugh came through in a clutch situation with his RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth to lift Lebanon Valley over Dominican (Ill.) 7-6 on Tuesday afternoon in spring-break action. The Flying Dutchmen improved to 5-0, while the Stars dropped to 3-4. LVC is now off to its best start in over 18 years.

To begin the bottom of the ninth, Josh Marcelli snuck a base hit through the left side. Tanner Rock came in as a pinch hitter, and next up was TJ Holdredge, who sacrificed Rock over to second with a well-placed bunt to put the winning run in scoring position. After Ethan Hurd was intentionally walked, Nick O'Shea grounded out to third, but that moved the runners to second and third. Josh Herring then walked to load the bases for Rickabaugh. On an 0-2 count, Rickabaugh hit a ground ball to the shortstop and beat it out, allowing Rock to score to give LVC a thrilling 7-6 win.

In the bottom of the first, the Dutchmen again got out to an early lead when Marcelli reached on an error to score Bryan Towers. A revenge-seeking Dominican team took the lead, however, in the top of the second when Stafford singled home Baker and Condron. The Stars maintained their narrow advantage until the bottom of the fifth when Joey Wrabel ripped a double to left to score Rickabaugh. Then, Chris DeClerico gave the Dutchmen a 3-2 lead with his double down the left field line. In the sixth, LVC tacked on another run off Rickabaugh's RBI-single.

Dominican came to within a run in the top of the seventh when Simak singled through the left side, but in the bottom of the frame, Marcelli scored on a wild pitch to put the Dutchmen back up by two at 5-3 before O'Shea reached on a fielder's choice that scored Holdredge, making it a 6-3 contest.

Dominican never went away and made it a 6-4 game in the top of the eighth with Buckley's sacrifice fly, and later, two more scored on an LVC throwing error to even the game at 6-6.
