How It Happened
PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – Lebanon Valley fell to the Elmira Soaring Eagles in a third period battle six goals to five in Saturday night's United College Hockey Conference (UCHC) men's ice hockey action. The Dutchmen dropped to 7-14-2, 5-9-2 UCHC, while Elmira jumped to 13-8-2, 11-3-2 UCHC.
Elmira was the first to score 5:23 into the first period. The Eagles added two more to the board half way through the second creating a 3-0 lead. That lead would soon be challenged, as Lebanon Valley scored its first goal of the night when
TJ Sneath found the back of the net with the assist from
Brett Johnson and
Brad Nolan 14:06 into the second period. The first 40 minutes of play ended with Elmira up 3-1.
With the goal from the second period, the momentum switched and was now in the hands of the Dutchmen.
Travis Hall netted one in 4:33 into the third with the assist from
Alex Borowiec and
Austen Zimmerman. Not even three minutes later, LVC scored again with a goal from
Tino Alunni 7:11 into the third with the assist by Cole Helper. The score was now tied at three a piece, and the Dutchmen kept on going. Sneath got his second goal of the night two minutes and 12 seconds later with another assist from Nolan. LVC took the lead 4-3.
Skyler Pugh wanted in on the fun and put one in in between the pipes 10:44 into the third with the assist from Hepler. The Dutchmen had a two goal lead 5-3. That wasn't the end for the Eagles, however. Elmira scored three goals in the last eight minutes of play. The third and final goal, which gave the home team the victory, came with only 20 seconds left on the clock. There wasn't enough time on the clock to take the game to overtime and the Dutchmen fell 6-5.

- There were 12 penalties in the game, seven coming from LVC.

The Dutchmen are back in Hersheypark Arena on Friday, February 15
th, at 7 p.m. and take on the Chatham Cougars for another UCHC matchup. Friday is also Senior Night.
