How It Happened
GLENSIDE, Pa. – Emily Mealey posted a career-high in points to lead Lebanon Valley to a 67-61 win over Arcadia in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament Play-In Game on Monday evening. The Flying Dutchmen jumped to 14-12, while the Knights' season ended at 12-14.
The game was tight throughout but down the stretch,
Anne Lehr knocked down back-to-back free throws with 5:51 left in the fourth quarter to even the game at 53-53. From there, Mealey took over and scored the Dutchmen's next seven points and LVC held a 59-56 advantage with 2:07 remaining in the game. The visitors continued to lead and with 1:04 to go, the Dutchmen were up by six at 64-58. On Arcadia's next possession, Julia Makowski knocked down a 3-pointer to bring her team to within three, but Mealey put away the Knights for good with 21 seconds left with a layup and the and-one. She made the free throw to put the game officially out of reach, as LVC held on for the big win.
It was a close game early on with the score tied at 7-7 with 3:37 to go in the first. It remained tight for the remainder of the first quarter and Arcadia took a slight 14-13 lead into the second period. In the second, the home team went ahead by as many as three, but the Dutchmen never allowed the Knights to pull away and eventually retook the lead when Mealey made a layup with 2:54 left to give LVC a 25-24 advantage. From there, the Dutchmen finished off the second quarter with a good jumper by
Jen Eck and the visiting Dutchmen went into halftime up by two at 31-29.
Once again in the third period, neither team was able to pull away. With 6:25 to go, Lehr made a layup, giving LVC its largest lead of the game at 39-35, but four consecutive points by Arcadia evened the score at 39-39 with 4:50 to go in the third. The game remained close throughout the remainder of the third and the Knights led 51-47 heading into the fourth, but the Dutchmen erased that slight deficit and pull away late to advance to the MAC Commonwealth Tournament Semifinal round.
Inside the Numbers
- Mealey dominated and scored a career-high 28 points on 12-of-14 shooting. She added 12 rebounds for the double-double.
- Lehr played all 40 minutes and scored 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting. The senior chipped in five boards, three assists, two blocks, and a team-high three steals.

Aley Abate provided eight points off the bench to go along with three rebounds.
- Arcadia was led by Taylor Fritz who netted 17 points off the bench.
- The Dutchmen held the edge in shooting percentage at 47.3-percent to 40.0-percent.
- Tonight's score was tied 14 different times.
- LVC led in second-chance points at 17-9.
- The Dutchmen were impressive in the paint, outscoring Arcadia 38-22.
Who's Next?
LVC is through to the MAC Commonwealth Semifinal round for the first time since the 2015-16 season and will head to Grantham on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. to battle top-seeded Messiah.
