How It Happened
READING, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's fourth quarter comeback attempt fell just short in a narrow 28-23 loss at Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) rival Albright in the Flying Dutchmen's 2019 season finale. LVC finished the season at 2-8, 3-5 MAC, while the Lions won their final two games and went to 2-8, 2-6 MAC.

After the Dutchmen forced a punt on Albright's opening drive, LVC began its opening drive with a double-reverse, but the Dutchmen fumbled and the Lions' Nate Steffan scooped it up and ran 25 yards for the touchdown. Todd Shelley then passed to Mike Jordan for a two-point conversion, putting the home team up 8-0 with 12:12 to go in the first. Later in the quarter, Albright was driving again and got all the way to the Dutchmen's 12-yard line, but Malik Bootman fumbled on second and goal and Tyler Gerhart recovered for LVC. Then, in the closing minutes of the first, Bootman coughed it up again, this time at the Lions' 43-yard line, forced by Brandon Brubaker, and Brubaker fell on it for another Albright miscue. This time, the Dutchmen took advantage and put points on the board when Hunter Wilson registered a four-yard touchdown, and after Nick Bentz's kick, LVC was down by just one at 8-7. No scoring occurred in the second, so the Lions went into halftime clinging to a one-point advantage.

Bentz began the scoring in the third with a 41-yard field goal that gave the Dutchmen their first lead of the game at 10-8. The home team answered, however, with Bootman's two-yard rushing TD that put Albright back on top at 15-10. Then, later in the third, Lucas Roselli ran it home from 12 yards out, increasing the Lions' lead to 21-10.

Early in the fourth, with 14:48 remaining, Bentz knocked through a 30-yard field goal, followed by a 25-yarder with 7:28 left that brought LVC to within five at 21-16. Unfortunately, Albright answered again, this time with a 63-yard touchdown pass by Jimmy Lahay to Zack Miller, pushing the Lions' lead back to 12 at 28-16. On the Dutchmen's ensuing drive, they made things interesting when Kody Kegarise found Tyeair Diggs for a 15-yard strike, making it a 28-23 game.

LVC got the ball back with 18 seconds to go and Kegarise began the drive by finding Diggs for a 16-yard connection, followed by a hookup with Andrew Olson for 10 yards to Albright's 38-yard line. On the final play of the game, Kegarise launched one into the end zone and Diggs nearly came down with it, but Albright's Armon Jefferson intercepted it, allowing the home team to sneak away with the narrow win.
