How It Happened
GLENSIDE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley netted three first-quarter goals and held on late to defeat Arcadia University 4-2 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Field Hockey action. The Flying Dutchmen wrapped up their regular season with an 11-6 overall mark and a 6-2 conference record, while the Knights dropped to 6-12, 3-4 MACC.
LVC got off to a hot start and never looked back, beginning when
Cecile Kat delivered a pass to
Danielle Alba and her one-timer found the back of the net, giving the Dutchmen a 1-0 advantage just 2:45 into the first quarter. Then, less than three minutes later, Kat split the defense and created a one-on-one with Arcadia's netminder and scored to increase LVC's lead to 2-0. Later in the first, with just over three minutes to go, Kat found the back of the net off another breakaway, making it 3-0 in favor of the visiting Dutchmen.
In the second quarter, the home team got one back when Adera Ahern scored off a pass from Carly Flickinger, but LVC still led somewhat comfortably heading into the second half. In the third,
Ashlee Sheibley put LVC back on top by three after a rebound came right to her stick, making it 4-1. Late in the fourth, the Knights' Regan Sammons scored, however it wasn't nearly enough, as the Dutchmen held on for the 4-2 win.
