Saturday's game between the Dutchmen and Devils will be the 23rd all-time meeting… LVC owns an impressive 16-6 overall record, including a 13-game win streak that went from 2005-2018… FDU-Florham got the best of the Dutchmen last season.

Last Time Out
In one of the longest football games in recent memory, Lebanon Valley dropped a heartbreaking four-overtime, 35-32 game at Misericordia back on Sept. 28. Trailing by three at 16-13 with 4:37 remaining in the fourth quarter, LVC needed some points late in the game to either tie things up or take a lead. Kody Kegarise completed back-to-back passes to Dylan Baxter, one for seven yards, and the next for 12, to set up the Dutchmen at Misericordia's 48-yard line. LVC continued to drive down the field until its drive stalled out at the Cougars' 22-yard line. With 55 ticks left on the clock, senior Nick Bentz was called upon to attempt a 30-yard field goal. Bentz knocked the ball through the uprights to even the game at 16-16 and eventually send it into overtime. In the first overtime, the home team got the ball first, but on second and nine at LVC's 13-yard line, Misericordia's Brady Williams' pass was intercepted by Brendan Yetter. On the Dutchmen's ensuing drive, the offense couldn't get going, however Bentz had a 42-yard field goal attempt that could've clinched the game for LVC. Unfortunately, his kick was blocked by the Cougars' Nikolai Kepple and the two squads went into a second overtime. In double OT, LVC started with the ball and the visitor's drive began with a Kegarise pass to TE Patrick Clark for four yards. Hunter Wilson then rushed for a seven-yard gain, followed by a five-yard spurt, and after Kegarise rushed for seven yards to Misericordia's two-yard line, the junior QB rushed again for a two-yard touchdown. After Bentz's good extra point, LVC went up by seven at 23-16. The Cougars needed a touchdown and extra point to send the game into a third overtime and the home squad got just that, as B. Williams completed a six-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Williams, and after the extra point went through, the teams went to a third overtime period. The Cougars started the third OT with the ball and B. Williams again found I. Williams in the endzone for a six-yard TD to put Misericordia ahead 29-23. Beginning in the third overtime in college football, teams must go for a two-point conversion, and the Cougars' attempt failed, leaving the door open for LVC. Kegarise continued to play well in overtime and found Tyeair Diggs for a seven-yard gain, followed by Wilson's eight-yard rush that put the Dutchmen at Misericordia's 10-yard line. Later in the drive, on fourth a goal at the Cougars' four-yard line, Kegarise hit Cameron Niemeyer in the right part of the end zone, and Niemeyer got a foot down for the TD. A two-point conversion would've iced the game, but LVC's attempt failed as well, sending the game into a fourth OT. After Wilson's four-yard rush put the Dutchmen on Misericordia's 19-yard line in the fourth OT, Kegarise was sacked for an eight-yard loss by Kaden Martell and Jason Anderson. The Dutchmen were unable to get another first down, but Bentz still hit a 31-yard FG to put LVC ahead 32-29. On Misericordia's possession, B. Williams began it with an eight-yard strike to Michael Gawlik, followed by Gawlik's rush of six yards and B. Williams' six-yard gain on the ground. Later in the drive, the Cougars reached LVC's one-yard line and Eric Jeffries punched it in for the touchdown to give Misericordia a 35-32 victory. LVC got the ball to begin the game and the offense was impressive early on, as Kegarise led the Dutchmen all the way to Misericordia's seven-yard line, however Bentz's 24-yard FG attempt was blocked by Nick Yeager and he returned it 10 yards to the Cougars' 30-yard line. On the home team's ensuing drive, they drove down the field in similar fashion as LVC, and the same series of events came next. Matt Dinnocenti's 31-yard field goal attempt was blocked by Logan Grauer, after he blocked a pair of extra point's in LVC's win over Alvernia last Saturday. In the second quarter, the Cougars got on the board when B. Williams rushed for a three-yard TD. Dinnocenti's missed the extra point wide right, so the Dutchmen were down by just six in the second quarter. Late in the second, LVC was looking for some momentum going into the second half and got just that after Bentz hit a 24-yard field goal to make it 6-3. The Dutchmen's defense limited Misericordia on its next drive and got the ball back at their own 40-yard line with 55 seconds to go in the quarter. Running an up-tempo offense, Kegarise found Niemeyer for a 22-yard gain on third and three, and with 17 seconds to go, Kegarise then hit Tyeair Diggs for a 14-yard reception to Misericordia's 19-yard line. After a timeout, Kegarise did it through the air again when he found Niemeyer for his first TD of the afternoon, a 19-yard reception as time expired, giving LVC a 10-6 lead heading into halftime. The home team hit a 41-yard FG late in the third to come to within one at 10-9, but early in the fourth, Bentz hit yet another FG, this time from 33 yards out, increasing LVC's advantage to 13-9. That score stood until 4:45 remaining in the fourth when B. Williams found Aaron Barry in the end zone to make it a 16-13 game. The Dutchmen eventually tied it late, but fell in quadruple overtime.

Last Year vs. FDU-Florham
A late field goal from FDU-Florham proved to be the difference as Lebanon Valley was clipped 24-23 by the Devils in Madison, N.J. on Oct. 27, 2018. After the Devils scored a touchdown in the third quarter to break the 14-14 tie, things got interesting in the fourth and final quarter. Just 45 seconds into the fourth, Steve Salerno rushed 12 yards for the touchdown that evened the score yet again, this time at 21-21. On FDU's ensuing drive, LVC was able to get a safety after a Devils' miscue to take a 23-21 advantage. Later, FDU started a drive at 9:32 and drove several yards down the field, but the Dutchmen were able to hold the Devils to a 28-yard field goal, so FDU went ahead 24-23 but LVC still had plenty of time left to mount a comeback. After completing a short pass to Fink for two yards to start the drive, the Dutchmen's offense stalled out and three consecutive incomplete passes were thrown. After LVC turned it over on downs with 2:30 left in the game, the Devils achieved a first down and ran out the clock, resulting in LVC's narrow defeat. LVC started the game off strong when it recovered Adam Domovich's punt that was fumbled by Josh Rainey. Alex Lawrence recovered it at FDU's 11-yard line, setting the Dutchmen up for terrific field position. Five plays later, with LVC on the one-yard line, Ryan Fink rushed it home and Nick Bentz's kick was good to give the Dutchmen the early 7-0 advantage. Later in the first, the Devils took the ball from their own 24-yard line all the way to LVC's end zone in an 11-play drive, which was capped by Alnazir Blackman's 14-yard rushing touchdown that tied the contest at 7-7. Then, in the second quarter, FDU used yet another long drive that the Devils were able to eventually cash in on with Robert Blakely's eight-yard rushing TD that put FDU up 14-7. After the Devils forced a turnover on LVC's ensuing possession, the Dutchmen returned the favor when Jagger Green's pass was intercepted and returned 50 yards for a touchdown by Tyler Gerhart to even the score at 14-14 in thrilling fashion.

Off the Bye
Lebanon Valley got an extra week of rest to prepare for FDU-Florham, as last weekend served as the team's bye week. The Dutchmen have been strong coming out of the bye in recent years, having won six of eight games off the bye dating back to 2011, and seven out of 11 dating back to the 2008 campaign. Last season, LVC fell at home to Widener coming off its one-week break by a 27-21 margin.

Previewing with Coach Buehler
Head coach Joe Buehler '89 sat down to discuss LVC's tough loss at Misericordia, the team's bye week, and a look ahead to FDU-Florham.

No Place Like Homecoming
The Dutchmen have had much success during their annual Homecoming Weekend in recent years. LVC has won nine of its last 11 Homecoming contests, with the program's recent eight-game Homecoming win streak that lasted from 2008 to 2015 only coming to an end with a loss to Widener in 2016.

1969 Football Team To Be Honored at Hall of Fame Dinner
At Friday night's annual LVC Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, the 1969 LVC football team will be honored along with the 1998-99 men's basketball squad. The 1969 football team was conference tri-champions after posting a 6-2 overall record.

LVC's Offense
The Dutchmen's offense continues to make strides each game in 2019. Their rushing attack, led by Hunter Wilson, ranks fourth in MAC with 145.3 rushing yards per contest. Individually, Wilson is second in the conference with 105.5 yards on the ground per game. QB Kody Kegarise has improved vastly from last season throwing the football, as the junior has already racked up 754 yards through the air with eight touchdown passes.

LVC's Defense
It's no secret the season that LVC's defense has had thus far in 2019, led by ILB Dillon Estes, who has amassed 45 total tackles in just four games, good for tops in the MAC. He's also third in the conference with three total sacks and 10th with 18 solo tackles. Brandon Brubaker is also enjoying a breakout season, as he's third in the MAC with 6.5 tackles for loss and Estes is seventh with 4.5. As a team, LVC's defense is second in the league with 13 sacks.

LVC's Special Teams
Kicker Nick Bentz has been a weapon for LVC's special teams this season. Bentz is 11-for-12 in point-after attempts and is 6-for-9 in field goals. Tyeair Diggs is averaging 19.20 yards per kickoff return and his longest return was 31 yards earlier this season.

Bentz Earns MAC Honor
Back on Sept. 29, LVC kicker Nick Bentz was named Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Special Teams Player of the Week. Bentz knocked down four field goals in a tough 35-32 four-overtime setback to Misericordia. Down 16-13 with 55 seconds remaining in regulation, Bentz drilled a 30-yard field goal to tie the game and send it into overtime. In the fourth overtime, the senior made a 31-yard field goal to give the Dutchmen a 32-29 lead. Bentz also hit from 24 yards and 33 yards earlier in the game.

Scouting the Devils
FDU-Florham comes into Saturday's action holding a 2-3 overall record and a 1-2 conference mark. Last week, the Devils hosted Albright and won a wild 50-45 contest after Damarquis Price hauled in a 31-yard touchdown pass as time expired to propel FDU-Florham past the Lions. Junior Alnazir Blackman totaled four touchdowns and 263 total yards, as well as 180 yards on 20 carries on the ground and three rushing touchdowns. For his efforts, he was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Who's Next?
A tough two-game road trip begins for the Dutchmen next week when LVC travels to Chester to battle Widener at 1 p.m. on Oct. 19 before heading to Doylestown on Oct. 26 for a matchup at No. 15 Delaware Valley at noon.
