Swimming Competes at Hood

FREDERICK, Md. – Lebanon Valley's men's and women's swimming teams were in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) action on Saturday after at Hood College. The women came away with a 124-114 victory, while the men dropped a 148-60 decision. The women improved to 3-5, 2-2 MAC and the men fell to 1-7, 1-3 MAC.
 
On the women's side, Sarah Wolfe beat out Hood's Mandy Smith in the 1,000-m freestyle with a time of 12:04.47, and Wolfe added a victory in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 5:50.75. Kaitlyn Welch came in second in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:10.62, and Erika Schell raced the 200-yard butterfly in 2:27.90. Emily Thrush was second in the 50-yard freestyle at 27.77, followed very closely by Alexis Morace (27.78) and Juna Currie (27.83).
 
Morace then finished second in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:00.91 and Schell took third with a time of 1:01.08. In the 200-yard backstroke, Cayla Sydow touched the wall second with a time of 2:29.68 and she added a second-place spot in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:10.14. Maddie Martin then took second in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:35.86.
 
Currie, Morace, Welch, and Schell teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 1:48.97 to finish of action on the women's side in the Flying Dutchmen's narrow victory.
 
On the men's side, Charlie Besjak placed second in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 2:09.34 and Chandler Mumper was second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:15.37. Jordan Heavel placed runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:20.88 and Kyle Kingsbury was third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.55.
 
Finally, a team of Kurt Harnish, Besjak, Noah Miccio, and Kingsbury took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.80, just under 15 seconds better than LVC's 'B' squad.
 
The Dutchmen are right back in action tomorrow at the Arnold Sports Center at 2 p.m. to face Lycoming on Senior Day. MAC Championships are then set for Feb. 14-17 at the Graham Aquatic Center in York.
