How It Happened
READING, Pa. - Alvernia netted 57 points in the second half to complete the comeback and edge Lebanon Valley 83-78 on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball action. The Dutchmen fell to 5-10, 2-5 MAC Commonwealth, while the Golden Wolves jumped to 6-9, 2-5 MAC Commonwealth.
LVC jumped out to a quick 9-4 lead with 15:53 remaining in the first half after
Jeremy Deihm's layup. The home team answered with a quick 6-2 spurt and came to within one at 11-10 at 13:41. The Dutchmen quickly answered and increased its lead back to four after
AJ Catanzaro knocked down a triple with 10:31 left in the first. From there, LVC held on to a lead until the Golden Wolves eventually tied things up at 23-23 with 5:30 left in the opening half.
After Alvernia tied it, the visiting Dutchmen ended the half on an 11-3 run, capped by
Mason Green's triple with 41 seconds left, to give LVC a 34-26 lead heading into halftime.
The second half was quite a different story than the first. The Golden Wolves opened up the second on a 20-12 run and evened the game at 46-46 with 15:15 to go in the game. It remained a back-and-forth affair for a few minutes of action, but soon enough, Alvernia began to pull away and quickly, LVC found itself down by nine at 60-51 after Malik Green hit two consecutive free throws with 9:46 to go.
With 6:48 left, Deihm hit a free throw that brought the visitors to within six at 66-60, but the home team clamped down on defense and didn't allow the Dutchmen to get any closer for the time being. Then, with 15 seconds to go,
Justin Baker knocked down back-to-back shots from the charity stripe to give LVC a glimmer of hope and make it a five-point game at 81-76, but the Dutchmen ran out of time and were unable to come back and fell 83-78.
Inside the Numbers
- Deihm was one point shy of tying his career and season-high in points and notched 25 on 10-of-13 shooting. The freshman added 12 rebounds for the double-double, as well as three assists, one block, and a steal.

Zach Tucker and Green each scored 13 points for LVC. Tucker added seven rebounds.
- Baker chipped in eight points and seven boards.

Chris Anderson scored seven points and added a team-high five assists.
- For Alvernia, Malik Green led all scorers with 29 points.
- Keon Talyor (18) and Nick Youngkin (10) also hit double digits in points.
- LVC outshot the Golden Wolves 49.1-percent to 38.1-percent.
- The Dutchmen shot 56.3-percent from beyond the arc, compared to Alvernia's 37.9-percent.
- LVC led in bench points at 19-13 and points in the paint at 32-22.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen have concluded their five-game road trip and return to Sorrentino Gymnasium on Wednesday night when LVC welcomes Messiah to Annville for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
